Help with upgrading my system
Hi.

I have a HP Pavilion 510-p199na desktop and am looking to upgrade it with a GPU. I am looking at a gtx 1050 or 1050ti but i am not sure on whether I would need to do anything else like change my power supply or whether a different gpu would be better value for money.

Thank you in advance. RJH

Upgrading that system wouldn't be cost-effective, or even sensible. Given how many parts you would have to change and the amount of money it would cost, you may as well build a completely new system.

A 1050 will may give u a performance boost, but on the other hand the hp has an amd a10..
Save the money for a gaming rig. At least min. ~ 500 bucks (depends on your needs)

Yeah, but how much would it cost to jam a 1050 into that thing? Most likely you'd have to replace the PSU and Case. And would that CPU even handle gaming? Let alone handle a 1050?

Smartest decision would be to scrap it and start again with something actually designed for gaming. I know that means a big spend, but there's a difference between buying cheap and saving money.

This PC is a money pit, the most cost-effective solution happens to be the most expensive solution, and that's to scrap it and start over. Ultimately that may save you hundreds of dollars over the next few years.

Was my point.

And according to hp, it's an 180w uatx psu.
So let's say ~ 160 bucks for a gpu + psu.. that's money I would throw in a new rig.

And that's best-case scenario, and you're already half-way to a brand new rig. And one with probably 50% more power at the CPU, a much more reliable set of core mechanicals, and probably a much sexier overall design.

*shrug* It's OP's decision. But I would sell the current machine for scrap on Gumtree, hopefully pocket $80-150 off that, and put that circa $300 into the basics of a new build. That should get you a workable system with more power than what OP has now, and you could finish it with a 1050Ti later once funds were available.

Thank you for all of the advice. I see your points and was something I was looking at if upgrading my current rig wasnt worth it. Would you salvage the cpu or is keeping the pc as it is and starting from scratch a better idea?

As arldy said, upgrading that office pc isn't worth the time and money.
Use the money for a new rig, that's the best way and deal and you will have more the next x yrs.
Ok thanks again for the advice
