The Truth about Intel Atom
So does everyone remember those netbooks that came out? Yea those mini laptops which werent good for much, except the internet?

Well technology is amazing. Today, I downloaded, played DOD: Source on my Kocaso W1010 Smart Tablet PC.

So it's essentially a tablet with a packaged keyboard/mousepad setup. Also have a usb-adapted wireless mouse. DoD runs on High settings excellent. FPS is increased beyond that of a Pentium. My system runs on Windows 10[It's ok, prefer XP or 7].

I asked earlier if it were possible to play these games on this smart tablet, of course to which the typical "google" answer came up: No, it won't work or you'll get terrible FPS and it will be unplayable. Maybe so, Maybe not.

This bad toy is using the Bay Trail GPU chipset, and it's quite amazing. I'm not playing Battlefield 6 or Call of Duty 29 yet, but hey it's still amazing. Since it is Windows, and not Android, this thing is quite amazing.

What is the point of this thread?

To promote the idea you don't need a 1200 dollar gaming machine in your home, if you don't spend your entire life on a game. I do many things, one of which is play games. It seems anything along the timeframe of 2013 and prior, will run smooth. I could not be happier with the quality result of this PC. If you're on a budget, and you need to play your games, get yourself one of these. They're relatively inexpensive, if I'm not mistaken, as I didn't purchase it, and it does EVERYTHING a regular pc does, except play CD/DVD without an external drive. Considering how lightweight it is, and how portable it is, I could get stranded at an airport and play on my lap no problems. And then simply fold up and get on the plane no issues.

Just to fight the propaganda that Tablets don't game well. This tablet fools me.

I have a 1.6ghz dual core netbook. the gpu is what holds it back a lot 256mb shared memory. Can play dos games and videos well, but not all guns on deck without lag (which is a rather low resource one)

In general, first generation netbooks had no dual cores Atom. Intel Atom N270, for example, offers 1 physical core and 2 threads (thanks to Hyper-Threading tech).

Topicstarter has Borderlands and STALKER games (both graphic intensive games) I wondering, how they are on modern Atom? And with which graphics presets?

Borderlands and STALKER SoC work decent, STALKER has some mouse lag, but i read previously, when i had this tablet, that it was normal to deal with some lag. A STALKER design flaw of sorts? Turning down the graphics and resolution for Borderlands made it work like a charm. I did experience some lag when there were tons of visual effects going on at one time, or when the enemies were all jumping me from all angles and i was struggling to live lol. But usually when someone posts on the internet forums, "What kind of computer should i get/build" everyone points to the ♥♥♥♥ that is very costly. However, I'm not a fan of what's popular, never will be a bandwagon rider.

And no, I can't play all the games on that tablet, of course not. I guess you could say I was pissing in a sea of piss, and then the kids with silver spoons in their mouths took a ♥♥♥♥ and said "look, look what i did."

Imagine that, being able to play a 13 year old game on relatively low power...

Sure, not everyone does. Not everyone needs to play games. Not everyone needs to play current games. Not everyone needs to play games at max settings. There's a whole spectrum and no absolutes within it. It's great you're play old games on a cheap atom tablet. It's certainly not a universal ideal.

and it does EVERYTHING a regular pc does, except play CD/DVD without an external drive.

Except play current games well. And if you have a decent gaming PC you can already play old games well. So yeah, specifically if you're the type of gamer who just plays games on a decade time lag this sounds like a great solution. For everyone else... not so much.

Just to fight the propaganda that Tablets don't game well. This tablet fools me.

Sure tablets can game well, just depends on the games in question. I use mine for SNES and PSone games. Unfortunately most people are talking about current games at decent settings when they're talking about how good the device is for gaming. It's not propaganda, it's just a different use case with different goals than yours.

Getting decent hardware is not riding a bandwagon or buying things just because they're popular. Just saying. If you don't want to pay for decent hardware, that's fine, you don't need to rationalize it man.
