How to remove the fabric that covers the driver on HD599?
I have an issue with bass rattling on my right ear cup, and have heard that hair (or dirt, etc.) can cause the issue. I removed the ear pad and cleaned off everything on it, but it didn't work. I have read that you need to make sure nothing is in the headphones so I unscrewed the screws, but that doesn't take off the fabric part, in only reveals the part under the headphones.

This is what I am talking about, however my pair of HD599s don't have the two "indented" parts at the top, and I cannot find another way to remove the fabric.

Just look on Google for the model and add the word
Fix, disassemble, repair....

You may need to use a flat tool, like a very skinny flat screw driver, or perhaps a ladies nail file or something like that, to gently tease out the fabric without distorting or stretching it.

I've compressed enough fabric on my own headphones over the years. I presently have HD650s and have had to gently work off the 'muffs' and try to puff the foam back up.

I haven't had bass rattling in it, but I have had too much microphonic gain on the tube amp I plug them into--bass would rattle or more like hum in a distorting fashion. Turning down (or off) the gain helps, but so did adding some rubber gasket rings and placing the amp itself on a sheet of extra/surplus rubber I cut off from a 'bench tech' mat I set up since cool kids don't wear static wrist straps in real life when working on their own equipment.

(Of course no one ever called me a cool kid; I am just assuming that... uh. hey. cool kids don't work on their hardware at all, do they?)

Yeah, the problem is there is no where to lift up the fabric. On the HD599's sister headphones, the HD598s, there are 2 "indents" where you can lift up the fabric, but not on the HD599s.

Don't use metal tools, you'll scratch or rip something. Use a thin plastic tool if you can help it.

Ok I'll look around online and see what I can find out.

ifixit has lots of videos and instructions for many common devices

For my specific device, I unfortunately could not find a teardown or disassembly online or on iFixit, which is why I am asking here.

for a teardown or ifixit video look for a similar model

or try prying gently, look for screws or clips under covers, stickers, or rolled foam edges

And wow took me 2 secs to go to Youtube and find an hd598 disassembly guide. Which is basically the same headphones just slightly updated

That is my point... HD598 and HD599 are not the same. The entire reason I am asking this question is because of that, and the fact that I can only find results for SD598 and not HD599.

They are built in a very similar manner. Their internal specs or other features may differ slightly, but the outer housing that makes up the actual headset is very similar.

had the same problem when buying my sennheiser h569s, literally 0 teardown videos
taking matters into my own hands i look at the headphones closely and see little clips holding down that fabric piece, if you get something thin and detach those you should be able to get it out, assuming its the same design seeing how its the 5x9 series

first i would unscrew the screws around the rim to see if there is any easier way though, just to be safe

if you look in the video that OP sent originally you can see a indent to put your nail through to pull the fabric out
the 5x9 series does not have that, though they look the same the way you disassemble it is different

Could you post a picture of these clips? I do not see them, though I may be missing something. And I have tried unscrewing them, it only leads me to below the driver.
