Fix, disassemble, repair....
I've compressed enough fabric on my own headphones over the years. I presently have HD650s and have had to gently work off the 'muffs' and try to puff the foam back up.
I haven't had bass rattling in it, but I have had too much microphonic gain on the tube amp I plug them into--bass would rattle or more like hum in a distorting fashion. Turning down (or off) the gain helps, but so did adding some rubber gasket rings and placing the amp itself on a sheet of extra/surplus rubber I cut off from a 'bench tech' mat I set up since cool kids don't wear static wrist straps in real life when working on their own equipment.
(Of course no one ever called me a cool kid; I am just assuming that... uh. hey. cool kids don't work on their hardware at all, do they?)
Yeah, the problem is there is no where to lift up the fabric. On the HD599's sister headphones, the HD598s, there are 2 "indents" where you can lift up the fabric, but not on the HD599s.
Ok I'll look around online and see what I can find out.
For my specific device, I unfortunately could not find a teardown or disassembly online or on iFixit, which is why I am asking here.
or try prying gently, look for screws or clips under covers, stickers, or rolled foam edges
taking matters into my own hands i look at the headphones closely and see little clips holding down that fabric piece, if you get something thin and detach those you should be able to get it out, assuming its the same design seeing how its the 5x9 series
first i would unscrew the screws around the rim to see if there is any easier way though, just to be safe
the 5x9 series does not have that, though they look the same the way you disassemble it is different
Could you post a picture of these clips? I do not see them, though I may be missing something. And I have tried unscrewing them, it only leads me to below the driver.
