8-pin and 4-pin power plug
Hi,

I was wondering, do i need to connect both the 8-pin and 4-pin power plug (for CPU) on my X570 motherboard?

PC specs:

CPU: Ryzen 3600X
RAM: 16GB
Motherbaord: ASUS TUF GAMING X570-PLUS
GPU: MSI RX 5700 Mech OC
PSU: Seasonic FOCUS FM-650 650W 80+ Gold Semi-Modular (i know i'm missing 4-pin connector with this PSU) but do i really need it?!

P.S. I don't intend to OC except for RAM.

What SeriousCCIE was trying to say is plugging in both 4 and 8 pin connectors might be a good idea for cheap PSUs with thin low quality wiring, as it will reduce the load put on each wire, hence reduce the temps and chance that something goes wrong. Your current Seasonic Focus is a high quality PSU and it's perfectly safe for you to use just 8 pin.

Are you sure about it? But in the manual it says: “Ensure to connect the 8-pin power plug, or both the 8-pin and 4-pin power plug”?!!
Only 8 pin OR both 8 and 4 pin.

The extra 4pin is mostly useless unless you are overclocking a 16 core Ryzen on LN2.

I have build 2 Ryzen 3000 X570 machines so far, I only connected the 8pin on both.

You'll be fine with just the 8-pin.

The 8 pin provides 150 watts, your cpu isn't going to use more than 100.

Single 8 pin is all you need.

The 8pin CPU power connector can do up to 300+ Watts actually.

I'm not even sure why x570 has that, no Ryzen has that much tdp, even if OC to tye max. 8pin + 4pin, or dual 8pin is a Threadripper requirement.

It isn't always raw wattage, it also is for splitting current (amperage) across the wiring.

It is always a good idea to plug all of the power cabling options in, if not for the power utilization than it is for the balancing of said power. Most higher end (be it from 2009 or 2019) motherboards with high end cpus of the era support such power draw functions; you'd never know it was doing something efficently or not unless you took measurements.

Something like the corsair axi series psus with their application that provides visibility across all of the power rails is an easy way to see it; otherwise an external meter. But really, few people care enough to do that--the easy way is to just plug everything in; you can't go wrong with that.

1x 8pin should be fine unless using a 3900 / 3950 cpu

Again though READ THE MANUAL
If it is best to have all that plugged in, you may need a better psu, like a Corsair RMX or better that offers 2x 8pin eps
