if i wanted to buy a GSYNC monitor

i want it new not used.where would be the cheapest place to buy it? im guessing bestbuy is not the cheapest place. in any event, earlier this year they were saying NIVIDIA graphic cards were compatible with freesync monitors i have a freesync monitor. i have a gtx 1080 graphics card

Then you should be able to run your GTX1080 with your Freesync monitor, no need to get Gsync. I have an Acer XR341XK which is a Freesync monitor at 75Hz, worked well with my VEGA64, but when my PC VEGA64 Red Devil had to be RMA'ed, I'd swapped to my Leadtek GTX1080, and though my monitor isn't listed as compatible, I was able to run it at 75Hz Freesync nonetheless.

As an owner of a Gsync monitor, I recommend you grab a Freesync monitor, it'll be cheaper, and perform basically the same.
And give you an option to use AMD GPUs in the future if you ever decide to.

cant agree with that. first there are only a handfull of freesync monitors which are compatible with nvidia gpus (28 right now ?)and on top of that old gync is dead compare to "new" gsync ultimate hdr. if you are looking for only variable refresh rate range you are right but gsync can deliver much more then that

2013 24 in 1080p 144 1ms asus TN just missed gsync had to deal with Vsync but never had issues 1080P ultra and max overrides 135-245 sits others 120-144 alot sit 145 on it

im listing my pc specs because if i buy lets say a acer predator GSYNC monitor would that monitor still be compatible with my current computer hardware? with my acer free sync monitor i currently have i play at 2560X1440 and my refresh rate is 144 hz. another concern i have is wasnt it that long ago NIVIDIA was saying that some freesync monitors are now compatible with NIVIDIA cards or did i hear wrong? my point is, is my card now compatible with freesync?

It's compatible with some some monitors, nvidia has a list of them. I'm using a rtx 2070 super and a aoc g2590px 144hz monitor with freesync. Maybe you only have to update drivers
When plugging in the monitor I had a popup from nvidia that a sync compatible monitor is detected
I was also using a 1060 with a freesync monitor, so the 1080 is obviously fine too

Yes, but there is no guarantee that you'll have a panel that works as intended.
(You COULD have issues like flickering, blurring when turning, display cutting out, and stuttering.)

However, that won't prevent you from trying, or means your display won't work.

You can test by making sure Freesync is enabled in your monitor, make sure your drivers are updated, going to Nvidia control panel and selecting the G-sync tab; from there you can enable G-sync compatible tab, enable it for fullscreen, and test a game at a framerate within the monitors Freesync range - you should see pretty quickly if there's any issues.

You have almost the same build as me, i have a 480gb SSD and a 2TB HDD is the only difference...I wasnt spending like $800-$1000 or more, 3 years ago to get a G-sync monitor. I bought a freesync monitor that they just recently added to the "unofficial" list of Gsync compatible freesync monitors. Mine is 4k but if u like your 144hz then i wouldnt suggest goin up to 4k till they release a monitor with the refresh rate you prefer and is affordable...but my 1080 can handle it for the 30-60 i require.

I turned on the gsync in 4k and i had a slight increase in fps... i havent tried it in 1440p yet...though im assuming it will look less detailed than my 4k@30 but as smooth as when i play games like GTA V where i can get 60fps...since im used to console i dont need the high refresh rate, plus imo its too damn expensive to go past 60 anyway...
