Fan curve on a GTX 1060
So I was told by EVGA to set up a fan curve because my card has a basic standard cooler on it unlike the SC version which has a copper core + heatpipes.

Since I've never done this on the other two cards I owned which were from ASUS i'm wondering should i set up a custom fan curve, aggresive fan curve or quiet fan curve?

I'm trying to keep the card cooled so it doesn't thermal throttle and go up to 83C. Trying to keep it around the same temps as my previous cards ran around 64C-65C Max under load when i was gaming.

Or just manually control the GPU Fan to keep it cooled when doing games/benchmarks.
Like with MSI Afterburner.

I don't use MSI Afterburner. I am using EVGA Precision X OC and I would prefer something simple rather then manually controlling the fan as I am not comfortable going into my bios and messing around with settings in there as I managed to ♥♥♥♥ up in the past to the point where my PC was null and none usuable.
Huh? You just un-tick "Auto" for the GPU Fan and change it manually, done.
Long as it is manually set to a % that keeps the GPU cooled at all times during benchmarks/games then you should be fine.
Afterburner and PrecisionX is the same thing basically. You get to set up a fan profile easily with either one.

What is the difference of setting up a fan curve through an option where it is on Auto VS Manual?

I prefer Precision X OC comparing to MSI Afterburner. I'm just using the program basically for the fan curve. I don't overclock whatsoever because I have no interest in that and am fine with using the stock speeds that the card came with.
Cause then you don't have to change anything really.
Auto is fine for everything outside of heavy GPU loads; like your OS Desktop usage, etc.

So your basically saying if I have the fan still on Auto and just set a custom profile or use the aggresive/quiet fan curve than it won't cool the card comparing to if i have it set on manual for when i'm gaming, doesn't that kinda create more of a hassle having to turn auto on and off. I also heard that it's best to leave the fan on auto.
Then just try it on the default first "Auto"
Then run something that will stress the GPU enough, and see how hot it gets while on "Auto"
Like Unigine Valley on Extreme-HD Preset

I think it's best if you open up the fan profile page and see for yourself what's inside first. It's like you keep trying to guess what it's about right now.

You don't have to save the settings right away you know.

It's a single fan card so obviously yeah it's gonna run hot, I'm not the type of person who benchmarks stuff or etc. Why should i have to benchmark and stress test the GPU if I use the program such as Precision X OC and HWMonitor to monitor the temperatures of the GPU which kinda show that the temps are rising the more the card is used under load.

I was just simply asking for an opinion of someone who is familiar with the features as I am really looking to run the card as is. my case does have two 120mm Fans in the front and one in the back thats a 120mm as well and here i thought my 960's temps were bad.

i've tried it on custom last night and the RPMs were around 1100rpm and it went up to about 1862rpm under load and that's having the fan set to auto.

So i guess i'll try out aggresive fan curve and see what happens. I'd really just like to avoid having a card that sounds like a jet engine in my case which is probably the louddest thing i heard as my case fans are quiet edition from corsair and my PSU is barely audible as it is facing downwards.

Also looking to avoid thermal throttling as that is probably was causing the GPU to sound pretty loud. It's better now then when i put the card in at first.

Single fan doesn't mean it will get too hot. I've tested them in customer machines (like 1060 6GB) and it was totally fine on Auto without making any manual changes. Yes it would generally get hotter on Auto, just cause of how the fan curve is setup. But yea do like the others said, just look inside the fan curve and see how it is set to ramp up.

This is what I currently have it set too after changing it having tried the custom curve.

Yea that should be good.

Test it in a stressful app like I was saying, see how hot it gets after about 10-15 mins.
