GTX 980 SC overclock limits without too much trouble suggestions/ start points?
So, how far could, should, would you go without having to bother with hours of benchmarking and overvolting. My goal is 1080 some games, but 1440p DSR (until 1440p/4k monitor upgrade) majority on "very high" to "ultra" settings at solid 60fps. I'm short on mostly all I can think of at 1440p and only a few games I can do rock solid 1080p 60fps no dips. So far only 1367 boost clock just upped to 1479, mem clock +100, with 59C gpu max temps, 48% fans max,61 cpu max temp, 3528 max memory. I'm guess memory is mostly my limit on higher res, any thoughts though of what to safely get to without too much trouble ?

TBH, I would not really worry about voltage. From what overclocking I did, a core clock of +180 and +100 to memory worked fine. But sometimes the game had a chance to crash the game (Not the computer). This is a GTX 970, but it should be the same or relative to you. As well as this, since a superclocked usually have better conductors inside it, you might get a higher safe OC.

The only way to overclock is to do it yourself. There isn't a magic "this works for all 980s" overclock setting. The only overclock you are guarenteed to get is from factory OC models.

Hours of benchmarking? No. This is not a CPU overclock and can be done rather quickly in comparision.

Keep a benchmark running on loop in windowed mode, like Valley or Heaven. Keep raising things in increments of 50, until unstable. Then back off by 50, and raise by 10 until unstable. Then back off by 10, and raise by 5 until.... I think you get the point.

EVGA OC Scanner helps too, as it can spot artifacts and distortions you yourself might not see/notice.

Yea I hear ya, I need to do it the right way. Haven't done it since I originally had a 660ti. Been a long time since I did it correctly. I am satisfied with above average, not the best, so haven't felt the need to push too hard. Much has changed since 660 though, I just don't look forward to putting time into doing it haha. I've been so busy working, I just want it to be tuned so I can come home and play for an hour, get immersed in it for an hour. Graphics definitely help that.

Then I would just run 1080p if that is the sort of Display you have and avoid DSR, which can cause issues in some games.

But yes, you will want to look towards a 1070 or 1080 for say 1440p/144Hz
I would also just avoid 4K at this time until the next GPUs come out.
Some games can run just fine at 4K even on these GPUs, but some have optimization issues and run like crap, just because of that particular game in general; such as Mafia3 for example.

Yes DSR definitely not good for many and I use my in-game resolution scale on some, but games like bf1 for instance runs 80+fps 1080p ultra txaa so what else do I do to push it override antialaising in GPU settings, res scale? Just trying to max it out a little more if I can in regards to bf1. Can't wait for Jan 4 see what Nvidia announces. Maybe update Volta clues. Depending on which I may get a 1080 and monitor or just monitor. Yea unless GPUs skyrocket performance to easy 4k soon going to go with 1440 . 144 and/ or gsync

Try this:

NVIDIA Control Panel > Manage 3D Settings

Anti-Aliasing Mode = Enhance
Anti-Aliasing Setting = 4X or 8X
Anti-Aliasing Mode = Multisample or 2X
