Nvidia 1070 GTX low fps in any game [SOLVED]
Specs:
- KFA2 Nvidia 1070 GTX
- Amd FX-8370 4.2Ghz CPU
- 16 GB ram
- 1 TB HDD
- 144 Hz monitor

Help!
I upgraded both my CPU and GPU.
Replaced Nvidia 650 Ti with = 1070 gtx
Replaced Amd FX-4100 with = Amd FX-8370

Yes. I have all the latest drivers.

In all games Ive tested so far, which includes:
Dying Light
Overwatch

I do have 100+ FPS sometimes (always have all games on ULTRA settings) but in the main gameplay like in overwatch in main fights and dying light in the cities I always drop to 50 fps or so. its unplayable. please help!

What resolution are you using?

50FPS unplayable ... hmm i got 30FPS and I think its playable . Kidding aside .

I think there must be a tangible FPS increase after the upgrade . As for the FPS drops in some games , I suspect FX 8370 but I could be wrong . In some cases it s the game itself .

FX 8370 shouldnt bottleneck a 1070 tho

Make sure your PSU is good enough for the new hardware.

Im using 1080p

try msi afterburner and see if your gpu works at 100% if not its probably your cpu that bottleneck the gpu but hear and other people opinions.

Run gpu-z and check memory type. If it's samsung you're probably ok, if it's micron you might be in for some trouble.

My micron ram 1070 gradually got worse and worse until it died after ~3 months use. I had sli 1070's and I was getting the odd stutter and crash and I didn't know what was causing it until I swapped cards one day when I was having game crashes and instantly got checkerboarding on the screen and any 3d application worked badly. Testing furmark for example the 3d content was strobing like crazy.

I have similar setup but I have my 3870 @ 4.75ghz. You could probably oc to 4.6ghz without much voltage increase depending on your mobo. If you're not running a 990fx mobo then don't oc past 4.4ghz. My 970 could do 4.4 but no higher, and my bro has a 760 that can't go past 4.2ghz with a similar cpu.

In Dying Light, turn the draw distance all the way down. It won't affect game visuals at all ie no clipping or culling but it does affect performance and framerate by having it on. Also turn off motion blur and depth of field.

nah I will stay stock, overclocking probably wont be good for my old ass trash cooler fan haha.
I dont actually have any stuttering or such. I just have oddly low fps for the fact that I have a 1070 gtx and a fairly good CPU which does NOT bottleneck it

It's more of an cpu issue then gpu as going for amd cpu's these days until the zen is released is a mistake with more modern games especially if the game you play depends more on the cpu.

Compare it to fps in similar games with an i5 and the 1070 and you will see where the issue is coming from.

well nothing I can do now I bought an installed an FX-8370 already.
maybe there is a bit of regret but I'll try my best to make it work.

That cpu is fine to run most games, and if you end up buying a better cooler it will perform even better for you. Mine is faster than a stock 9590 which is faster multithreading than a stock 6700k. If you want to go intel get a 6 or 8core cpu with 12 or 16threads as they actually do outperform amd chips.

Intel has amd beat in single threading which most apps and games aren't and by only about 30%. Old applications that are single threading have been replaced with newer multi core stuff, hell dual cores are over 12 years old, meaning that developers have had the option to run multiple cores for over 12 years. Only a handful of people out there still run single core cpu's, most of us have moved on to better technology. The most common chip right now is a quad core, I think around 80% of the population have a quad core computer now, with at least a 2gb ddr5 graphics card.

The way things are going though 8 threads (and 8 gigs) are getting utilized more because consoles (both ps4 and xbox) use 8 core amd chips most multi platform games coming to pc will be coded for that cpu, and it will continue to be this way until consoles make their next move ie to 16 thread cpu's.

Yes, if you want to spend double the price you can get a good intel setup (you would need a 6800k in a 2011 socket mobo with ddr4 ram to see decent performance gains over amd, ie gpu bottleneck where on an fx 8370 you can get 10k points with a gtx 1070 for example the aforementioned intel machine will net you 15k points with the same gpu).

Op's cpu costs about $210ish while a decent i5 6500 will cost about $205 and perform much better in almost all the games out there for a good reason.

Please stop misguiding people. You don't need a 6 or 8 core CPU for gaming, especially not a 6 or 8 core Intel i7. You don't need to spend double the price to get a good intel setup either. I don't know what points you are talking about, but you should measure game performance by minimum and average framerate, not a symthetic benchmark.

I'm not misguiding anyone, and while I already stated that intel has the lead in single threading, that with a similar cpu amd wins in multi threading, unless you get a 6 or 8core with 12 or 16threads, then intel wins in multi threading. And yes, it takes a socket 2011 cpu to beat amd, because the recycled 1151 is only so-so and doesn't, at least not without overclocking and then only the 6700k and the difference is negligible. They both have virtually the same throughput.

Also, almost all new game requirements are an 8 core amd cpu. You can play a game that requires 8 cores on a quad core but not very damn well.

Remember gta4? It's minimum requirement was a dual core but recommended requirement was a triple core (thank xbox 360 for that one). Ever played gta4 on a dual core? It doesn't run worth crap even with a high end video card. I know, I tried back before everyone and their dog was an intel shill.

I mean I have an AMD FX-8370 newly bought now and I wont buy another new intel or something. I literally bought it yesterday. But it HAS 8 cores.
Also UPDATE:
After I installed an older version of Nvidia Drivers I gained +30-40 fps in some games!
