How to use my PS4 controller on my PS4 again

Hey everyone, so I tried out the DS4 compatibility with Steam since I wanted to try it out. So I did, configured it, played a little bit of GRiD and I didn't really like it so I wanted to play on my PS4 again. However, I can't connect it to the PS4... I tried some things like resetting the controller, holding the PS home and Share button the same time, rebooted my PS4, tried to connect it through a usb cable but nothing is working anymore. I already disabled bluetooth on my PC so it can't connect on there but that were all the ideas I had in mind. Is there anyone out here who knows what the problem is? Thanks in advance!

Yea once you ensure a PC you've paired it with won't pick it up...

Turn off the PlayStation 4. Locate the small reset button on the back of the DualShock 4 near the L2 shoulder button. Use a small, unfolded paper-clip or something similar to push the button (the button is inside a tiny hole). Hold the button down for a couple of seconds and release.

Alright so I got a USB keyboard to delete my DS4 controller of the devices list and then pressed the home button and share button at the same time, went to bluetooth devices and scanned my enviroment manually to pick up the signal... Crazy way to do it but if something looks stupid, but it works... It's not stupid.

Keeping the actual device installed on your PC should have no bearing to it pairing with a Console; as for say BT, you should be able to simply un-pair the device from PC first, as a means of ensuring when you turn on the Controller next time, it won't auto-pair to PC cause of the BT being on and ready to pick it up automatically again as a paired device you've allowed in the past. So un-pairing it from PC first, should simply stop it from auto-connecting to that PC, but still allow the device driver and such to remain on the PC, should you pair/connect it to that PC at a later time.

Once un-paired, try the Reset process (hold the reset on Controller for about 10-15 secs) then connect it to a PS4 that is powered off already, connecting it via USB Cable, as a means of getting the Console to then pick it up again. Try turning on the Console via the Controller. With the controller connected via USB cable after this reset process, the PS4 should pair it automatically, even though it's on wired connection.

Thanks. That's the only thing that worked for me.

So I guess to summarize:
Use either a different controller or your usb keyboard (press F3 to access the options page) to delete the controller that won't work. After that press the share and PS button at the same time and choose your controller.

Sorry for reviving that thread but I had difficulties finding it.

Just disconnect it and wipe all disconnected device drivers via IOBIT Driver Booster. Then connect controller such as XBO, DS4 via USB data sync cable and install it fresh. Once installed, disconnect the usb cable and use it via BT after doing the sync/pair method.

Hey I’ve had this issue recently, and I have a wired keyboard and mouse that I usually use for my pc and I hooked them up for the first time ever by the USB ports on the front of the ps4 but now I can’t get passed the screen that says “the PS4 was not turned off properly blah blah blah” which button on the keyboard is mapped to the accept button or “X” ? I never controlled a ps4 with a keyboard before

Pressing the Enter key on your keyboard should get you past the "PS4 was not turned off properly" screen. It's what worked for me, anyway.
I'm in a similar situation; I accidentally used both of my DS4 controllers for games on my PC, and despite unpairing and resetting them, they refuse to connect to my PS4 again through wired connection. I managed to find an old USB keyboard and it works with the PS4 just fine, but I have no idea what key(s) to press in place of the PS button in order to get past the opening "Welcome Back to PlayStation" screen. I read somewhere that the Pause/Break key is supposed to take that role, but a quick press does nothing, and a long press just takes me to the power options menu (rest mode, restart, shut down). Any help from those who did have luck getting into their PS4 with a keyboard would be much appreciated.

plug it into the ps4 with a micro usb data cable

or use another controller or k/m to navigate to the ps4 bt menu
hold share+ps on the ds4 until it flashes white
then select the controller on the ps4

Simply power on the controller, press and hold down the reset button for about 5 secs on the controller, this will rid it of any pairing that happened after being paired with a Console. The button is very tiny, there is a pin-sized hole on the front of the controller.

Neither of those things are working for me. I don't have a third controller so I can't navigate to the bluetooth menu. Normally I would use one of the two that I have, already paired to the PS4, but as I said before, I've accidentally paired and unpaired both, via bluetooth, to my PC. I've pressed the reset button located on the underside next to the L2 button with a paperclip for at least 5 seconds several separate times. I've tried connecting the controller to the PS4 with a mini-USB cable before and after I booted up the PS4.
You mentioned a button on the "front" of the controller. Is there more than one reset button? I tried the only one I know of on the underside while the controller was turned on, like you said. The light flashed white, attempting to connect to something and immediately turned off when I pressed the reset button.
The USB keyboard has been the only thing that works so far, so again, if anyone knows what key(s) to press in place of the PS button, I would much appreciate your help.

if that still fails to pair using another controller or k/m in the ps4 menu

turn off the ps4
hold ps4 power until the 2nd beep
plug in the controller using a micro usb data cable
press ps on the controller
pick reboot
and it should work again

It turns out the USB cable I was using was only capable of charging, not data exchange. I found a better cable and now it works as intended.

Charge only cable is all you need when connecting it to a Console as it will connect via Wireless to the console. Thats how its supposed to be. Only need for the data sync usb cable is if wish to use as fully wired on a PC.
