Is the GTX 1070 sli worth it for LG UW 3440x1440?
Thanks.

I would get GTX 1080 for this if you can afford it. GTX 1070 is more for 2560x1080, 2560x1440.

sorry i meant gtx 1070 sli.
I game at 4k on an overclocked 1070, you can get more out of a 1080 but if cost is an issue a 1070 should suit you well. I play gtav with very high and ultra settings and it does a great job @ 2160p and I'm using amd cpu.

I had sli running but my secondary card died (currently in rma process) and it was about as good as the new titan. I assume it would be better if both my cards were working but even so I benched around the same performance as a single pascal titan.

I oc'd the poop out of the working 1070, 2100mhz gpu and 9400mhz ram and it benches around the same performance as a stock 1080.

Avoid sli / crossfire if you can and the gtx 1080 will be a better pick.

thanks for the advise
Which games btw.? For the ones you currently own, a single 1070 / 1080 would plow right through with ease.
Most modern titles as well. After all, a 1080 is the card for 1440p basically, and ultrawide is not that much more.

I do have other games on my other account. But i will be getting them on this one aswell eg, gta v and a lot more.

But should I sli the 1070? I can afford a 1080 (just got paid) but ♥♥♥♥ its not cheap, almost 700 quid. I dont wanna buy a 1080 and struggle through the month if you know what i mean. thats why am thinking of buying one 1070 now and get another next month.
Honestly, a GTX1080 would be a more practical option and would probably be cheaper in the long run.

The main problems with SLI are heat, power draw and bulk. You'll obviously need a Motherboard with two PCI-E X16 slots. You'll also need a high-quality(Tier Two at minimum) Power Supply with at least 600 Watts of power and a case big enough to house two large GPUs with enough airflows to keep them cool.

All of those things cost money, and could easily push an SLI setup beyond the price of a single GTX1070.
Do you have the CPU / board / PSU / chassis size & cooling to properly run and cool a 1070 SLI?
Are you willing to troubleshoot a lot regarding SLI software issues?
Then yes, it's an option (kinda).

A good aftermarket 1070 can easily plow through GTA V on that resolution as well, i.e.:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01I2DQFDC/

If you're happy on sometimes lowering some settings to high instead of highest whatever hurr durr, then you gonna be fine with a single 1070. If you just buy a 1070 with the intent for long term SLI, look at the possible issues above, and think twice.

With this system, do you reckon a 1080? I am legit confused. I dont wanna get a 1070 now and later on upgrade to a 1080, that would be waste of money. And if i get the 1080 now i will endup struggling through the entire month. Not looking forward to that path lol.
For the sake of pragmatism, I would go for a GTX1080 and another 8 Gigs of RAM. This would be a much simpler upgrade, would have no hidden costs and would still give you the performance you want. A single 1080 would work in 99% of games out of the box, with no further tinkering needed.

At risk of sounding like a broken record, SLI has a lot of downsides. You're running two graphics cards, which means you need double the power and double the space. Double the airflow would help as well. There are also some hidden costs involved, you'll need an SLI Bridge - last I checked they're around $60 for a good one. Quality does matter here - good bridges give slightly better FPS.

I would also recommend a better Power Supply. Yours has more than enough Watts, but I'm not convinced it'll survive long between running two massive GPUs and a heavily overclocked CPU. Including whatever gigantic cooler you're using to keep an i7(already a hot-as-hell CPU) thermally stable at 4.7 GHz.

The other problem is compatibility. Which is be a huge issue with SLI setups. Pick a game, view the Discussions for it and sooner or later you'll find somebody complaining that their SLI setup isn't working. Often times these are fixable issues, but the point is you'll spend as much time tinkering with it as playing on it.

Alright, i really appreciate the time you've taken to help me out.

thanks. I will try hard to get the 1080

It's a better option. SLI 1070s might look good on a benchmark, but you would spend all day trying to make it work. Wheras a GTX1080 is a plug & play solution with no extra costs or pitfalls.

And besides, I don't know about UK prices but here in Australia you would actually save money with a GTX1080. If you include the cost of an SLI Bridge and uprated PSU, you're looking at about the same price - around $1000 AUD.
