Is switching my GTX 970 SLI setup with a GTX 1070 worth it?

Just curious, because i want an upgrade, but i would like it before Chrstmas, and i shoulld have enough for a 1070 this week paychecks. However, not sure if its worth it. I could wait even longer and gget a GTX 1080, but i heard its cost too much for what you get compared to a 1070.

1070 wins hands down.
1. No SLI, which is not supported by all games and does not always work properly even in supported games. You can add a second 1070 later if you really want to.
2. More RAM, twice the RAM and all at fullspeed unlike the 970.
3. Less power draw, meaning lower bills to pay.

You get a 25-30% performance increase moving from a 1070 to a 1080 for a 50+% price increase. Going from a 1080 to a Titan, you get a 30% performance increase for a 100% price increase. The 1070 is the current sweet spot in terms of value for 1440p gaming. For 4k, you need at least a 1080, or SLI 1080s or a Titan for smooth framerates at ultra detail settings. If you want higher FPS for a 144hz monitor at 1440p, go with a 1080. As for whether it would be worth it, bench the games you play and then Google some GTX 1070/1080 reviews to see if the performance improvement is worth it. I would think SLI 970s would be comparable to a 1070 in games that support SLI.

I had 2 x 980Ti's (Sli), and just dropped £1300 on two 1080's (Sli), and notice a huge difference between the two, as i play most of my games in 4K (3840x2160) resolution, and even 4096x2160, i can now run them max settings with no fps drops compared to the two 980Ti's, well impressed.. :)

1300 just for the graphics cards? man Im scared to spend that on a desktop. That must e professional gaming right?

As a casual gamer, should i drop my wad on an omen with a 1060 0r a 960?

Thanks for allll the replies, i am playing on a BenQ 1080p 144ghz Monitor. Do plan on getting a 1440p monitor, and playing VR in the future though. Not in a rush for 4K yet honestly.
