How do I turn off "OneDrive?" Windows 10

I noticed that Windows has been saving everything I save and install into OneDrive without even bothering to ask. It's funny how you have to click 500 times on yes to install something harmless, but there doesn't seem any way of optiong out of saving your entire life onto a cloud service. Unless anyone else knows? I don't want this on either of my machines. Turning off the folders in One Drive disables my access to them via my PC.

just right click the little cloud in the taskbar hit settings and uncheck start with windows

Consider using "Spybot Anti-Beacon" (created by the anti-malware company Spybot).

Under it's protection, you can add all that, but also under it's "Optional" tab... you will find "OneDrive Service" and "OneDrive Group Policy", add blocks for those.

That would remove the service completely, without you having to manually edit around. Otherwise, even with it disabled, it's still there running in background.

I don't care if it's running or not, I just don't want to save personal data to some service without my knowledge or consent. I also want to be able to actually save files to my own PC instead of the internet.

Update: Turning it off has made me loose things, if I turn it on I can't access my own stinking laptop drive.

OneDrive has nothing to do with your physical drives.
So IDK how they could be an issue.
And OneDrive actually just sits idle in Win10 unless you actually set that up and upload data to it, etc. But yea if u don't want to see it, ridding it from OS Startup should be enough. Now it will be in Win10 still, so if you go to do a backup option or you are looking at User Folders, OneDrive is still there, as an option, so be mindful of that.

If you want it fully disabled (or Cortana too) use the ShutUp10 App to safely and easily do that.

I'm going to assume you have a Microsoft Online Account linked onto Win 10?
Check under Settings > Accounts

Also, if you had placed anything on the Microsoft OneDrive Cloud, download and copy it to a local directory, before disabling.

I fiddled with the settings and now I think it's off. The thing I object to is the automatic nature of saving things into OneDrive without any sort of hey do you really want to do this? Or even acknowlidging that it's there.

Yea I would never suggest actually using your Live Account as your OS Login.
If you need to use Live for certain things, login seperately (like for accessing Windows Store).
For the OS Accounts, use Local Account.

What is being dumped into your OneDrive then for example?
I don't see this occurring as any sort of automatic.

Any and everytthing that was saved to Documents. I noticed it when I tried to access my documents folder, and it said it didn't exist or I didn't have acess or something along those lines. I quickly realized that there was another "Documents" with a green checkmark by it, this is where everything had been going instead. This was under "OneDrive." The good thing is the only thing I seem to have lost by turning it off was an Unreal projet I had just created. I'll have to go on my PC to see if anything was lost there. I think I some how got it not to save on OneDrive up there before I saved too many things on it.

That doesn't happen automatically, you had to have set that up for "sync"

Interesting, so it must have been set up on my laptop before I bought it then. I'll have to have a look and see what's there.

FYI > When you buy any OEM-PreBuild > WIPE it clean.
I can't stress that enough. Doesn't matter if new or used. I can assure you most OEMs partition the drive wrong, have bloatware, ad-ware on the machine. Best bet is a clean OS and latest Drivers and nothing from the OEM.

I agree, there was a bunch of things on here that I didn't need, so I uninstalled them, next time I'll do a full wipe. Other than this issue this laptop has been a very good buy.

Uninstall doesn't ensure bloatware is gone. Like Lenovo for example, they have a customized UEFI partition on the system, which in order to really remove their stuff, you need to nuke the whole drive. Which is best to do anyways.
