What cpu could i get with my MSI 2A9C

Just wanna know what cpu i should get because my i7 870 2.93 ghz is getting really old and its still holding up good but some people say that some games may run better with a faster/better cpu . SPECS Intel core i7 870 2.93ghz,16 gb ram 661mhz, motherboard Msi 2A9C,MSI GTX960 2GB.

Switching one i7 for a slightly better one won't change much.

And since that is an HP Motherboard; hard to say for sure what CPUs (even going by Chipset and Socket) would work 100% on that Board.

Best bet is upgrade to newer; Motherboard + CPU + RAM.
Such as:
- Z170 Motherboard
- LGA-1151 CPU
- DDR4 RAM

Ok I think thats a good price actually but its just the cpu im not sure about. would a i4690k work?.

Any LGA-1151 i5 class would run circles around such an old i7 as what you have now though.

If i7 is too expensive, aim for i5-6600K perhaps.

Ill search around for maybe cheaper good parts but still great help
