New 144 Hz Monitor but no 144 Hz option only 60 Hz

Hey guys i'm in a dilema...i've been playing on 60 hz for all my life since i first starting playing CS, and i've been doing a lot of reading and they say 144 Hz makes a big difference so for black friday i bought a Acer GN246HL 144 Hz and I installed it correctly with a DVI-Dual Link Cable and I'm still not getting a 60 Hz refresh rate option in windows. I even went to my AMD settings and make a custom resolution and when i type 144 hz and hit apply it says "the custom resolution settings are not compatible with this display. Reconfigure your settings and try again."

I don't know what's wrong, i've tried googling the problem and no dice, i'm stumped
If anybody can point my in the right direction i'd really appreciate it.

Dvi to dvi or dp to dp is the only way. Hdmi won't support it.

On many laptops it won't work because the external video ports don't output via the nvidia gpu.

I'll probably just save a little extra and get good graphics card since i will be playing future AAA titles.

Consider something like an amd 470/480/570/580 or nvidia 1060/1650 thereabouts whichever depending on availability and budget since your using mainly cpu heavy games you just need the 144hz with some flexibility on games and graphics options. No need to get an "exceptionally powerful card" for a 24inch 144hz monitor when your probably never gonna bother running above 1080p anyway.

I have tried with a 4k tv, and immediately appear the 4 k option in the nvidia center. So the issue is more serious jut to try with cables.

When the info on the acer website says that you must use a DVI-DL cable connected directly between the gpu and monitor, and anything else won't work, then trying something else isn't going to work.

I bought a 165Hz Asus PG279Q two weeks ago and it was resolutely 60 FPS until I opened the TV's own menu(via the menu button on the side of the TV) and selected 120 Hz refresh rate.

I have same ASUS 27in 165Hz 4ms IPS Gsync got in OCT 30th
