Bought a E8400, not working. How do you flash bios?
I'm new at upgrading a CPU, I have a Pentium 4 925 3.0ghz, and bought a E8400 , put the new CPU in, orange light , nothing works. Tried Thermal paste, new battery, removing the jumper thing and putting it back, nothing works. ATM I'm trying to see if my Wife's 8400 CPU works in my desktop, if it does, that means that the one i ordered is a dud. Having a hard time getting the last screw off the cooler, which is why i stopped to type this, so i haven't checked it. So let's say the cpu i bought works, any ideas or am i just doomed and i wasted money ?

Just another reason why i hate buying online, sitting here waiting 8 freaking days and the damn thing doesn't even boot up. My MB is 0GX297, yes i know the max FSB speed is 1066 and the e8400 has a speed of 1333mhz, but i read somewhere that it will work on my Dell 745, and the speed will just work at 1066. What's interesting is that a better CPU at 1066 speed like a quad core actually does wok. that makes no sense.

I'm using the latest bios 2.66, but can you flash some bios or whatever its called so i can get the e8400 working?

That Motherboard does not support E8400. The E8400 is an 1333mhz proceesor which your motherboard cannnot support.

However yout motthernoard only supports 1066mhz processors such as E6700 Core 2 Duo.

Intel Core 2 Duo (Dual-Core) (E6000 series), Pentium D (900, 800 series), Celeron

Your board is not 1333mhz compatible. Whatever you read was bad information.

Well i'm not buying either one of them now , just have to wait until 3 months from now when i have the cash to buy an prebuilt i7, which I'm going to do. I'm never buying online ever again. I didn't like doing it in the first place, don't have the patience of sitting around forever to get something and the damn thing doesn't even work. yea my fault for not heeding to the requirements, but oh well. If by chance i happen to fix this problem and get it to work i will update the thread.

cheers :(

if ya need a site to look for a cheap old Q6600 or Q6700 go to
https://starmicroinc.net/intel-cpu-processors/intel-desktop-cpu/intel-core-2-quad/

the only place to find out if there is a bios to support a quad core .. is the Dell website and put in your service tag from the sticker on your machine (or bios) ...then look up CPU support

Buying online was not the issue; it was not checking compatibility first.
Not flaming; but again always understand all of that before you buy something.
Especially if its say, from an individual who is not accepting returns.

If you asked around (like here perhaps) we could have helped clarify or answer questions; before you made any purchasing choices.

There is nothing wrong with online ordering of PC parts, I've done it many times for several full PC builds. It was entirely caused by not reseraching or asking anyone about what you can upgrade to or whether your current PC was even worth upgrading.
