Formatting Drives Help (Win 10)
I've been trying to format my drives recently to get my computer ready to sell but when I tried to format the only drive on my computer and got the message "You cannot format this volume" I searched how to fix this and stuff about deleting my recovery partition appeared. I eventually came across a tutorial that lead me to the "Recovery" tab within the "Update & Security" and then clicked "Reset this PC" then "Get started" I began the resetting process and was faced with a message that said "There was a problem reseting your PC" and "No changes were made" I searched how to fix this and stuff about deleting partitions came up. I followed a tutorial which lead me to delete the Recovery Partition. I tried to reset my PC again and was faced with another message saying something about not being able to find the environment. PLS HELLLP

Dude, just pluck out your hard drive and put in a fresh one. Yeah, you can nuke the data on it, but make it 100% safe and just pop in a new, cheap drive. Keep your old or literally destroy it.
Smash it? Haha

When we dump government drives; one go at it with a drill through the platter, done (remember; off to one side, never the middle)
Now, you can't read it. Now it's ready for the electronics recycling :epicstickman::CrowdControl:

As said before - best idea is to either keep using the old HDD as a backup drive, or if it's too old and small, just recycle it.

You obviously dont know the definition of Troll if you think any of us were "Trolling".
What he uses is up to him, what we are Telling him is they are NOT NEEDED when a Windows Disk or even a Win10 USB can do the job without having to go through any hoops.

And np IBPixels, i missed the thanks part :p

I decided to just remove the HDD and buy a new one :) (This "getting ready to sell my PC" has been very stressful lol)

That works as well lol

you can just totally destroy the HDD, or you could use it in your current system and format it via Disk Management within Windows

Simply cause you were doing it wrong; you can't go deleting folders/files that are locked with password; simply wiping the partitions would do the trick. You're really making this hard when it's not. And it takes like 2 mins to boot to OS media, wipe the drive, done.

You keep trying to reset the OS from within the actual OS on the hard drive; boot from separate OS media, not the troubled drive.

How would I get the Recovery Partition back?

If you wipe the partitions, you dont get it back, unless the system came with a manufacturer restore disk

What OS is used on the drive you are trying to get rid of?

These ^ types of gadgets make life a little simpler too if you've got another PC/Laptop to plug it into then you can wipe the whole drive also.
If you are concerned about the data, you can always use a degaussing tool or take it to a professional recycling centre.
