High standby memory anything to worry about?
Got a new computer (two weeks ago), prebuilt, relatively high end and it runs pretty much as expected.

However, noticed that for some reason lot of memory (over 50%) was being used for no discernible reason even @ idle state so i poked around a bit and found a fix of sorts for it.

All seemed well, but noticed today that 8gb+ memory is in standby mode and since i'm not that knowledgeable when it comes to computers, was wondering how bad of a thing that was?

It's a gradual shift, as after rebooting most of the memory is free, but bit by bit it it turns into a standby memory and i don't know if that's a good or a bad thing. :steamsad:

Unused RAM is useless really; that is why OS is constantly building a cache the longer you use the system; the cache can change size at any time; that is not memory that is being locked down for actual usage. The only RAM really being "locked" into active use; is what it says for; Reserved, In-Use, Modified.

If you actually Mouse-Over those colored bars, it explains all of this briefly.

Stand-By = Cached Data, not actively in-use.

Overall; if you go to run something demanding; lets say a Game that can use alot of RAM. Memory shown as Stand-By will be freed up and the In-Use will increase. These both go hand in hand with one another. Stand-By # is nothing to be concerned about and should not be confused for In-Use

Well, that is good to know as was somewhat concerned it might've been something to worry about but glad that wasn't the case.

So thanks for the replies guys and for setting my mind at ease! :ghlol:
