The Cable is just one factor; others are your Display and the Input Source, such as your PC's GPU.

Given your new cable; and what Display & GPU you have, now you should be fine.
Once connect the cable; switch the monitor to display port and power on your PC.
Then go into NVIDIA Control Panel set switch to a Res that actually supports the 144Hz.
DP will also offer another option; in NVIDIA Control Panel where it shows Res/Refresh, you will notice an option for Output Color Format; the Format should already be on RGB; but the Dynamic Range next to that might be on "Limited" change this to "Full"
