What should I upgrade to from a gtx770?
I have had the same system for 3 1/2 years, I74790 intel cpu, 16gb ram and a gtx770 2gb graphics card, my computer has never let me down but I thin kit is time to upgrade.

2 questions.

1, What graphics card should I buy next if I am going to stick with the same cpu?

2. Is it worth updating the cpu as it seems that games still require less than my cpu has to offer and I could maybe upgrade that in a year.

You can pretty much buy any GPU with your current CPU. So it depends on your budget, and what kind of fidelity you want to achieve.

Plain and simple: nope.

Your CPU will be fine for many years to come. As for gpu, I would look at the R9 Fury for $259 on newegg, at those prices I would consider that over a gtx 1060 or Rx 480, above that though a gtx 1070 or 1080 is a great choice.

GTX 1070 is quite big upgrade to GTX 770 and will keep you going for years.

I would recommend upgrading to a GTX 1070.

Thanks guys, I will definately sale the 770 as it's an asus and it is still fetching a bit of money as they stopped selling it new a little while ago and they are kinda rare I think.

Is there a certain model I should look out for, I don't want to buy a cheap version.

I easily have the money for a 1080 so it might be worth buying that and maybe a bit of ram so I am set for four years.

Your CPU and RAM will be fine for quite some time still; so it basically comes down to what you'd like to do for GPU. If you can afford GTX 1080, sure; but what resolution are you running at? A 1080 would be wasted for doing 1920x1080 though.

And maybe do a fresh install of Win10 64bit

I would say gtx 1070

Yeh I have decided for a 1070 as I only play at 1080p and am happy to for a long time, plus I could go for a 1060 but I want to bullet proof for quite some time.. I may need a new power supply with that, I will check what mine is another day and check if I need a newer power supply.

If your PSU was good enough for GTX 770; then it's more then enough even for a single GTX 1080; so you should be fine there.

Enjoy!

I upgraded to Asus GTX1070 Strix a while a go when my 780 died. No matter which 1070 you got, I would highly recommend further overclocking yours, as I were able to push it up to 2076MHz core (and 8708MHz on memory, but that's yet to be tweaked to max, though has minimal impact on performance) while apparently having a max voltage (that the card can even pull in) of 1093mV, which leads to MAX 68c temps under any load I've yet tried with slightly tweaked fan curves (never gone past like 65-68% fan speed too).

I haven't been overclocking GPUs in a long time and I were slightly surprised to see how simple it is on 1000-series and how much of a jump you can get without really pulling that much more power in...

It's been that simple to do for years, easily dating back to the GTX 200 and 400 series GPUs.
Both the hardware and software has gotten better too over the years. But that ease of OC has always been there for the most part.

Unfortunately I am clueless when it comes to hardware and over clocking, I had this fitted in a store, it is an asus 1070 dual and standard overclocked.
