[SOLVED] PC does not boot with new GPU (GTX 1060)
-- BIOS update (Q-FLASH) solved issue --
(version F20e)

Hello there,

so I'm the owner of self-built desktop pc that worked fine since I built it (summer 2012). Today I got my new GTX 1060 G1 from Gigabyte and I do not come further than my flash screen.

System:

Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit SP1
CPU: Intel Core i5 3570K @ 3.40GHz 28 °C Ivy Bridge 22nm Technology
RAM: 8,00GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 672MHz (9-9-9-24) (Corsair XMS3 DDR3-1333 DIMM C)
Motherboard: Gigabyte Technology Co. Ltd. Z77X-UD3H (socket 1155) rev.1.0
Graphics: 2047MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 670 (Gigabyte) 29 °C
Screen: Samsung S24B300 (1920x1080@60Hz)
Storage: OS: 119GB SAMSUNG SSD 830 Series (SSD) 25 °C
931GB Western Digital WDC WD10EZEX-00BN5A0 (SATA) 27 °C
Optical Drives: ATAPI iHAS124 B
Audio: Sound Blaster Z
Case: Fractal Design Define R3 USB3.0 Black Pearl M
Power: 580 Watt be quiet! Straight Power E9 CM

OS and GPU Driver are up-to-date, BIOS should be too because the latest update was from 2014 and I remember that I did it once.

My screen is a SyncMaster S24B300 24" that is connectet with a DVI-D (single link) cable.

To what happens when I turn on my PC with the new GPU:

All fans start, everything seems normal, the GPU-fans are also working, initially the FAN STOP indicator is enloghtened but goes dark after 1-2 sec. No beep. The flash screen pops up... and yeah, that's all. Nothing more happens. Without GPU or my old GTX 670 everything works again as usual.

I hope someone can help me to find a solution.

Edit: my power supply cable has 2 6+2 pin cables. My GTX 670 uses one 6+2 and one 6. The GTX 1060 was connected with one 6 pin plug.

Does the GTX 1060 G1 require an external power connector?

How much power can your PCI Express x16 slot deliver?

1. I don't think so. what exactly do you mean?
2. I have no idea, where can I look it up?

because of the new pascal architecture, the new GPU should consume way less power than my old one

Also:

I once read that the new 10XX series has problems with DVI and special screens. I tested it out with another screen, using a HDMI cable. It did not help.

this is what I see when booting (not my screen, just the same pic)
Looks like the 6-pin or 8-pin power connector (I'm not sure which one your card takes) may not be correctly connected. So your card is powered enough to display the boot splash screen, but not enough to boot windows.
Hey there. I updated my bios (Q-FLASH) again and now the PC does boot again with the new GPU. But also I deactivated the in built graphics from intel while trying around.
Only one thing is left: while being on desktop the FAN STOP light is on and they are really not spinning if I look at them. Is it because idle or another error? (it says 29°C atm)

Edit: I looked the settigs up in "Ectreme Gaming Engine" (a program dor GPU settings from Gigabyte) and blow 50°C the fans wont be active. You can change it with custom settings!
