Dual core i3-6100 3.7Ghz or Quad Core i5-6400 2.7Ghz

Which one should i get Dual core i3-6100 3.7Ghz or Quad Core i5-6400 2.7Ghz ?

i3 has 3.7ghz but it is only dual core. i5-6400 is quad core but only 2.7Ghz !!!

i5 is $245 i3 is $155 !!!

Should i spend the $100 more for the quad core. Or just i3 and wait 2-3 years to upgrade to a better one


I am pairing the processor with GTX 1060 6GB

I want to be able to run all new games at high-ultra settings like fallout 4 , Ark , Witcher 3 and skyrim remastered. 1080p 40-60fps atleast.

The Intel Core i5-6400 will quite often TurboBoost v2.0 'up to' 3.3 GHz (3,300 MHz) so long as it is cooled correctly.

I am not buying CPU cooler. Just using a stock Cooler that comes with the case.

It should idle around 34C / 94F anyway, the stock Intel HSF is reasonably good.

I assume you are not overclocking and especially not increasing the voltage (which raises the temperature very quickly without advanced cooling).

Nope not doing anything extra. I dont want to void the warranty or break it.

If the fourth core is mostly idle, then the other three cores will gain 500 - 600 MHz in performance.

Just get a well ventilated case, like an NZXT or something half good.
