What happens when you apply too less thermal paste ?
Like 1/3 to less ?

You can never apply too little thermal paste. A bit of thermal paste the size of a grain of rice or a pea is all you need.

Don't spread the thermal paste. Put a pea in the middle and install the CPU cooler.

With thermal paste less is more.

Temps might be higher than they could / should be, but that's it pretty much.

I did my own build, its finished already, just wondering if I applied too less, but it was the size Omega described

You have a third party cooler and thermal paste wasn't pre-applied?

Yep, thats the case, I do have the Noctua NH-D15 in use and it definetly had no preapplied thermal paste

Ok, then everything is fine. (Just 1 sec ago I saw the system specs on your profile)

I will upgrade to either a 1800x or the 8700k sooner or later, depends how well my current cpu serves me but overall Im really happy with my first custom build

That CPU will be solid for 5 years. A Ryzen would be a downgrade is single core performance and and probably the same with Coffee Lake.

"Upgrading" a 7700k would be a huge waste of your money.

Well, time will tell I guess, but you are probably very right, its not a financial question tho, but alot of people told me that single core performance is the one to look out for :D
