Corsair 750w PSU users - need advice
ok this might sound complicated to explain but i will try my best

I have a gaming pc and have had the GREEN/BLACK corsair 750w M psu installed for the past 2 years. Recently i thourght it was making a noise so i swapped it out for a corsair750w M YELLOW/GREY version (one of the newer models) and booted my pc up.

Its been 2 days now and that loud sound i can hear is still there. I stopped ALL my fans in my pc last night and found the noise is indeed coming from the psu itself.

Is anyone else using 1 of these model psu and find them to be loud? i have noctua fans installed in my pc to keep it quiet.........so this psu is sorta defeating the purpose of it as its all i can hear unless i play something like a game or music so i cant hear it. My friend Deska says he has the same model psu and his is loud as well

im trying to find out if the model 3s (green/black) are actually quieter than these newer ones because i know my previous psu was NOT as loud as this new type4 model

I had a Green Corsair CX PSU before and the fan was rather quiet. It used a 120mm Yate Loon fan which is used by many quality PSU makers. Definitely not loud unless bearing is dying. Generally I doubt Corsair uses some crappy fan in overall.

Corsair makes some decent budget PSUs. And some great high-end PSU.

(Disclaimer: I am planning on buying a 750w titanium Seasonic) That PSU is $200.. Compared to a $70-ish Corsair.

To OP:
I have a CX 750w green. I have had some minor issues with the fans grinding but that was fixed with tilting/shaking the case. Since I upgraded my case to a Corsair Air 740 which has the PSU horizontally mounted I haven't heard the grinding noise anymore.

The grinding is caused by cheap fans. Tilt the case, shake the case. Or remove the PSU from the case and shake it. That should fix it. If it doesn't fix it RMA the PSU.

you only tested this PSU and not any other and few days ago you asked alot of questions which PSU's I would recommend. And Corsair doesnt build cheap they just rebrand of good companies like Seasonc and cheap ones and its hard to keep track which are the good and the bad ones.

see this is whats p***ing me off

im sat here right now in front of the pc and ive the following fans installed

at the front x2 air cool fans spinning at 900rpm
back x1 air cool fan spinning 900rpm
side x2 normal sleeve fans spinning at 1200rpm
cpu cooler x2 noctua fans spinning at 1300rpm
gpu is a gtx970 and the fans ONLY spin on that when i reach 60oc and even then its super quiet

yet all i can hear is the corsair 750w psu making this humming noise above any other fan

this was the before before i swapped the psu out with the green and black psu which i could hear a noise with

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1147140905

and this is with the new psu installed which i SWEAR is louder than the green one and this is meant to be brand new

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1147142015

im looking at this currently as it says it starts up in silent mode - then low spin mode and then normal mode and that also the fans are not crappy sleeve fans (which is what a friend told me corsair fans actually are in the psu) but a fuild bearing fan

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Seasonic-Focus-Plus-750-Watt-Platinum-Modular-PSU-Full-Modular-SLI-CrossFire-/382238903803?hash=item58ff36cdfb:g:3bcAAOSwuTtZzmK2

does anyone know much about this make/model as i cant find anything

the noise im hearing it seriously getting to me - i should NOT be able to hear one 140mm fan so loudly when ive 9 others inside the damn case

You are buying cheapo CX750M, that's all you get.

Buy actual Corsair AXi, HXi, RMx or RMi model. They are as good as any Seasonic top tiers. My RM750x fan DOES NOT EVEN MOVE, total silent fan, 0 rpm.

is the RM750x suitable for a gaming pc? ie will i run my 970 and everything else ok? i only ask because i dont know much about them but ebay says the fan only spins once 50oc is reached

is the rm750x the same size as the cx model? i think i can only fit a normal psu in my case

Whut? Heck no. Corsair high end PSU are some of the best in the market. Almost universally acknowledged is that AXi makes the very best PSU. AXi, HXi, RMx and RMi are all high end models, they blow most of the Seasonic away except for THE top end Seasonic, which are equal.

You do not joke with 10 years warranty. Corsair top end is among the few PSU lines that offer 10+ years warranty.

They are all ATX PSU, same size. They are among the best, better than even EVGA Supernova G2 which is everyone's favourite but of course more pricey.

Corsair midrange is TX line. CMx is budget, cheapo stuff.

Go and have a look here. Recommended is what's on the Advanced Tab.

Corsair and cooler master doesnt make their own psus they rent oem companies in order to make psus in the name of their brand and which is cheap.

so this rm750x should b suitable to run my 16gb ram, gtx970 and both hdds and everything else then? i dont care if it makes a noise when im gaming because i won hear anything else aside from the game. when im not gaming i want it to be quiet
Astraea Kisaragi Sep 30, 2017 @ 2:33am
One last time: Corsair does not makes PSUs at all, only the stickers.
Their higher line is just good as Seasonic for a simple reason - cause its a Seasonic. Various companies do PSUs for them - Seasonic, Flextronics, Great Wall, CWT. If you buy a CX you buy a budget PSU (CX is done by CWT). You get what you pay for. But remember one thing, even that CX is better as the chinabrand firehazarad crap most users have in their computers.

CX tended to die sometimes due they saved on the capacitors - using cheaper chinese SamXon. The PCB itself was decent. The new grey stickered CX should use better capacitors, basically a cost-cut version of their better RM line.
