Others, no.
Other, possibly.
SteamVR is an open platform, and technically just about anything will work.
Whether it works out the box or not, is an entirely different question. Third party application(s) may be required.
Now, just because a headset can work with SteamVR does not mean all games will work. It will depend highly from game to game. If a game uses a typical gamepad for control, then the chances of success are high, but if it uses motion controls that you don't have, then you are pretty much out of luck.
Not only that, but whether a game is room scale or seated plays into playability as well. A simple smartphone VR headset just won't really work with a room scale experience.
Keep in mind that a smartphone VR setup has limited tracking and does not track forward/backwards, side to side, up or down. Limited tracking, limited compatibility.
Of course that can change in the future. SmartPhone VR types = No
I'm talking about the present. There are all kinds of VR headsets that work with SteamVR, not just the ones you mentioned.
Smartphone VR most certainly does work, just requires some extra third party software. SteamVR is open and doesn't exactly require any specific compatibility, other than a screen, basic tracking capability, and some sort of control input.
Perhaps you should look into SteamVR and OpenVR a bit more? It is quite interesting.
a smartphone headset will not work with steam. it's basically a plastic case with lenses. it doesn't connect to your pc.
Because it is part of the VR industry. Open software is a GOOD thing.
Worth is only valued by the individual, but that has nothing to do with the OP at hand.
The OP is getting free headsets, not purchasing one, and asked a fairly straight forward question.
"Is ANY VR headset Steam compatible?"
Most likely, as most headsets work with SteamVR, due to the open nature of the software.
And as far as using smartphone for VR, it isn't anywhere near as complicated as it was a few years ago. There are a few applications that are quite literally a few clicks away from playing, with SteamVR integration, existing profiles to make non-VR games into VR, existing control remapping profiles, etc, etc.
Wrong. As I said, third party applications make it possible. In fact, both wired and wireless. Pretty cool stuff.
link?
SteamVR/OpenVR... Look into it. It doesn't require but the very basic of headset to function.
However, don't mistake this for game support. A smartphone will not be able to do room scale, will only be able to do seated, doesn't have volume space tracking, doesn't have motion controls, etc.
Link for what specifically? Third party application to get you rolling with your phone on SteamVR? You can use Google.
Trinus VR, VRidge, Kino, etc, etc.
