2560*1080 Ultrawide or 4K Monitor?
Hi all i am looking to upgrading my monitor and have narrowed it down to two options.
The LG29UC88-B 29inch 2560*1080 curved ultrawide, or the LG 27UD69-W 27inch 4K.
Both are freesync monitors.

My graphics card is the AMD R9-290X-DC2.

Which option would be better for gaming with my graphics card?.

I would like the extra screen real estate of the ultrawide, but i would also like the increased resolution of the 4K display, sadly i cannot afford a 4k ultrawide so that is out of the option.

Thank you all in advance.

EDIT: my budget is $850AUD. I am also open to 1440p monitors as well if that would be a good middle ground.

EDIT 2: i am now also considering these two options as well.
1. Acer Predator XB271HU 144HZ 1440p
2. ASUS MX27AQ 27in 1440P

For convencie the monitors i am considering are.
1. LG29UC88-B 29inch 2560*1080 curved ultrawide (FreeSync)
2. LG 27UD69-W 27inch 4K (freeSync)
3. Acer Predator XB271HU 144HZ 1440p
4. ASUS MX27AQ 27in 1440P

If you don't mind a bit of risk

Only A$470 for 144Hz IPS 1440p FreeSync monitor. The seller is the go-to for Korean Monitor way back when 1440p IPS monitor was rare (circa 2012).

Why? A 144HZ G-Sync IPS from Asus can be had for $530:

There is no point in going with those old Korean panels which have always been a hit or miss.
The crossover is $350 us and $470 au. I've been rocking a qnix 1440p perfect pixel since 2013 OC'ed to 120hz with no issues and for the price I paid I'm laughing.

Just because you're rocking one doesn't mean everybody else did.

I know of a lot of people from [H] that got shafted over those panels due to the lackluster quality control.

Nothing wrong with them in most cases since they rock the same panels as name brands. Even Acer and Asus have some serious quality control issues when it comes to backlight bleed etc..

They have great value if you are on a budget, just buy from a reputable seller.

No, there is something wrong with them. The QC is not there and a lot of people got panels with bad pixels and other issues. They're leftover panels.

You're not really saving when you're getting something that could potentially come in a CRAP form.

Did you even read the description of the Crossover? They don't even accept monitors that have backlight bleeding as a return, regardless of how much there is on it.

Go to the huge HardOcp thread about them, people got monitors that had pixelerated colors and various other crap like that. Sure, it's a great panel when it works but when it comes with problems your money is WASTED.

Indeed, since the op needs a new GPU to drive it.

Looks like the op has made his mind up any how.

I got a crossover, it's perfect pixel and there's zero defect.

And of course ALL IPS has backlight bleed. Show me one that doesn't. They have various degree of backlight bleed, but they all have backlight bleed.

Again, I don't care. They don't either, if you get one with backlight bleeding at HUGE levels, they don't accept it as a return.

Way back in 2012, there were people who got DOA Crossovers. One guy was even trying to sell it in a [H] BST topic for $200.

You're suggesting a monitor that could potentially come as DEAD ON ARRIVAL. It's clear that you're clueless.

im still open to new ideas it isnt set in stone.

But sadly the korean monitor is out of the question as they dont accept EITHER
Backlight Bleed OR Dead Pixels as a defect and wont accept returns based on those reasons.

I rather spend even double the price and buy from a reputable brand which i can return it to if something is wrong with it.

There have a lot of cases of those Korean monitors dying on people in couple weeks time.

I'd go with something that has more reputation. The Viewsonic suggested on the first page should be good.

No, and I meant NO, manufacturers cover for every backlight bleed or dead pixel. There is a min cover and if it's under min, tough luck.

The Korean monitor will cover for harsh backlight bleed and if you buy perfect pixel they cover for >5 pixel.

If you type in ASUS or Samsung there are tons of reports of DoA, flicker, dead pixel, etc. No manufacturer is defect free.

MORE of those Korean panels come with defects than those from Asus, Samsung, Acer etc... because they simply use lower grade panels. Why do you insist on them? Even you said they were risky. Do I really need to go give reference to LOTS of monitors failing from those?
