2560*1080 Ultrawide or 4K Monitor?
Hi all i am looking to upgrading my monitor and have narrowed it down to two options.
The LG29UC88-B 29inch 2560*1080 curved ultrawide, or the LG 27UD69-W 27inch 4K.
Both are freesync monitors.

My graphics card is the AMD R9-290X-DC2.

Which option would be better for gaming with my graphics card?.

I would like the extra screen real estate of the ultrawide, but i would also like the increased resolution of the 4K display, sadly i cannot afford a 4k ultrawide so that is out of the option.

Thank you all in advance.

EDIT: my budget is $850AUD. I am also open to 1440p monitors as well if that would be a good middle ground.

EDIT 2: i am now also considering these two options as well.
1. Acer Predator XB271HU 144HZ 1440p
2. ASUS MX27AQ 27in 1440P

For convencie the monitors i am considering are.
1. LG29UC88-B 29inch 2560*1080 curved ultrawide (FreeSync)
2. LG 27UD69-W 27inch 4K (freeSync)
3. Acer Predator XB271HU 144HZ 1440p
4. ASUS MX27AQ 27in 1440P

Well you'll struggle to run things at 4k, so I'd advise against that, have you considered going 1440p ? It's a good middle ground, I don't know what your budget is, but a 144Hz panel would be ideal regardless of Res, but given those choices and your GPU I'd say the 1080p ultra wide is the better option, see if you can get it at 100Hz+ for best long term results.

even 1440p might be pushing it with that GPU.. its not exactly the greatest for above 1080p..

Well
i suppose it depends on the game
and the rest of your specs

4K is definitely not happening though

honestly bud

id save up a little more and just buy a whole new system along with a better monitor if needed, sell that PC if possible.

FX systems arent worth keeping if one is able to upgrade to a more up to date system.

You want my honest opinion? My GTX 1080 which is like R9 290X Crossfire x 2 and even then struggle at some newer games at 1440p. It is after all almost 18 months old now.

For the concerns about my pc specs, I will be upgrading it soon I already have some money saved up, but my current priority is my monitor as my current monitor is ancient, it's the Samsung syncmaster 2033sw only 16*9 not even HD ha-ha.

For 1440p 144, know you won't be at the upper limits of the refresh, but that's ok, the biggest improvement is going from 60 to 100fps-ish, and it will last a good long time, being a substantial pixel jump from 1080p while not crippling like 4k with the benefit of high refresh rates, I'd look into the Asus swift, Acer predator or AOC something lines, the Asus and Acer options would be my first choice, exactly which one depends on you and f you plan to stick with an AMD GPU or swap to nvidia when you upgrade, the nvidia option with gsync will come at a 100 ish premium over the and freesync option, but it does work a little better, either way, both techs only work with their own cards.

ViewSonic VA2719-2K-SMHD, that should be plenty with FreeSync 60Hz (can be OC to 80Hz) 1440p IPS.

If you don't mind a bit of risk
https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Crossover-27-FAST-144-FreeSync-Zero-WQHD-AH-VA-2560x1440-144Hz-Monitor-Remote/322059256359
Only A$470 for 144Hz IPS 1440p FreeSync monitor. The seller is the go-to for Korean Monitor way back when 1440p IPS monitor was rare (circa 2012).

Better off with 27" 2560x1440 144 Hz, Freesync if you plan to stick to AMD with your upgrades or G-Sync if you plan to upgrade into Nvidia.

If you like gaming at high frame rates, then the 2560x1080 one.
If you like thing to look prettier and are happy with poor frame rates, the the 4k one.
I have a 2560x1080. For me anything under 60 Hz frame rate is awful. Ideally I like 100 + fps.

Why? A 144HZ G-Sync IPS from Asus can be had for $530:

There is no point in going with those old Korean panels which have always been a hit or miss.
