How Much Of a Difference Do NVME SSD’s Vs Sata SSD’s?
Does it make much of a difference? Can you notice it?

Can games loud faster?

What things would you have to do to tell the difference?

Thanks! :)

For what purpose? Gaming only? No it's not even worth it.

Check Real-World Software Performance benchmark

The Optane SSD, the fastest consumer grade SSD in existence using 3D Xpoint memory, is barely faster than Intel 600p which itself is not faster than SATA III SSD.

Nah, I do some video editing too, so would that show a difference in speed?

Depends, video editing can eat a lot of storage at which point it's simply too expensive to buy 1Tb-4Tb of NVMe SSD. Do you need the capacity?

Not at the moment, it’s just so I know when I want to upgrade in 2-3 years.

The new Intel 900p has something like 5x faster random reads and writes which help for gaming over regular nvme or SSD drives, as for nvme drives they have similar random read and writes to ssd's but have alot faster sequential times, which really helps when editing or moving large files.

Ok, thanks!!

Except as above Tom's hardware found minimal load time reduction for gaming using 900p 512Gb model. I meant it barely beats 600p which itself is slower than 850 Evo or MX300 the go to SATA III SSD.

That really makes no sense given its insanely faster for both random and sequential read and writes, I'll have to check it out,on a plus, it makes me abit less salty that it came out a few days after I could no longer return my 1tb 960 evo and swap for one lol

read times are not the only thing that matters but more the acess times. Also what sense does a SSD make when you load the fastes but have then to wait for the other players befor the match starts or you load the game in 1.5 sec instead of 2 sec?

Only games with many loading times like FO4 would make sense with it imo.

Keep in mind that when it comes to nvme drives of different sizes of the same product, their performance vastly differs.

For example, a 1tb drive might have a 500tb write lifetime and 1000 write/read speed, while it's 120gb counterpart will only have 20tb write limit and 300 write/read speed. This is especially apparent with cheaper ones like intel, wd, etc.
It doesn't because 900p is made for no gaming. Gaming is still bottlenecked by programming itself. 3D Xpoint main advantage is insanely low latency, which the Z-NAND promise to compete on equal ground.

Although a big part of the advertising for the 900p was how much it improved loading times for star citizen ...
A game that will release in 2027? Maybe they are right.
