Monitor not detecting DVI cable! [SOLVED]
Recently I stepped up from console to PC for gaming. As being on a budget, I decided to buy a proper gaming PC secondhand.

The pc itself is working perfectly and I don't have any issues. However my monitor is what's wrong.
(I should still have warranty from the store, so will be in contact too, but I figured the problem might be elsewhere)

The monitor is a BENQ ZOWIE XL2411, 144hz. It is only one year old.
The monitor is not detecting the DVI-D cable when plugged in. When HDMI is plugged in, the screen works as it should, no issue.

As for testing whether the cable might've been faulty or the GPU socket, I tested it with another monitor which has the same input. It worked perfectly...
The gpu has a DVI-I while the monitor has DVI-D, but as I said, it work fine with another monitor, thus I'm thinking that it is the XL2411 that is faulty. Currently am unable to test the monitor with a completely different PC, but will try that as soon as I can.

The person I bought the pc/monitor from, was selling it for someone else and had little understanding of pc's. However what I did notice, is that the cables that came with the monitor were even untouched by the person himself. therefore I wondered whether it was a fault by the GPU or PC related. I made sure ALL drivers for the pc were up-to-date.

Does anyone have any other suggestions on why the monitor isn't detecting the DVI-D cable?

So yes, I confirm that the cable I have is a DVI-D dual link, which fits in the monitor, and fits in the GPU that has a DVI-I dual link port.
The cable works using the same GPU but a different monitor.

On the 144hz monitor the message i receive is '' no cable connected!''
I work in IT. I have a degree and years of experience. Yet every time a (customers) problem has me stumped and I call a support desk, and they ask the silly basic questions every troubleshooting starts with, I give them an independently verifiable answer so that we can move on as quickly as possible. They don't and shouldn't take my word for it, just like we shouldn't just take your word for it, especially when you're making statements that undermine your credibility.

DVI comes in 5 variants where most of them fit together just fine, so that doesn't tell us anything. Compare the connector to this chart or post a pic: https://s3.amazonaws.com/shopperplus/uploads/kind/0ab6c55222d705618c7e8416bce6bb7e.jpg

That said, a single link connector should still give you an image, just not at 144Hz, so it looks like there's another issue. And to get another basic question out of the way: You're plugging it into the GPU and not higher up on the motherboard right?

I know it is the right cable, trust me. and yes, I have put it in the GPU, the GPU has a DVI-I port, ill try to get the pictures upload in a minute either way. The motherboard itself has a DVI-D port, but I haven't tried yet to plug it into that one. either way, everything works when I use a different monitor, it just doesnt work with the XL2411

That does not mean that the cable on the other monitor in question is the correct cable. You got this used, yes? Nothing stops the shop from putting the wrong cable in the box.

Once you check the actual cable we are talking about, on the monitor that is having the issue, let us know.
it is 100000% sure the correct cable, im trying to upload pictures as we speak so you can see. I used the same cable and the same PC same slots on 2 different monitors with both DVI-D ports. the XL2411 doesnt work and the other monitor, packard bell Viseo 273D, does detect it....

Here the monitor which it does work on:
http://www.prad.de/en/guide/screen10172.html

That other monitor has a DVI-D single link connection...

The cable being used being a single link cable explains everything.

I hope you have close ups of the cable in question, and not the cable you have.

Your girlfriend got this monitor used, right? The shop, or the person that put it on consignment, could have put the wrong cable in the box.

Doing a "test" with your hardware is meaningless.

Is that the actual cable in question? Or your cable?

The reason I'm asking is because you have referred to what you have, as if it is identical... but that is not how you troubleshoot, especially when the shop or the person that put the monitor on consignment could have easily put the wrong cable in the box.

Why would I care about YOUR cable, when the cable with the issue is your GIRLFRIEND'S?

I want to confirm that your GIRLFRIEND'S cable is DVI-D dual link. I don't care about YOUR cable.

The pins on the cable look slightly bent to me.

The gpu socket looks like dvi-i. I have a dvi-d gpu and the cross connector is a (dvi-d) slot.

I guess we misunderstood eachother. this cable, my girlfriends cable (this is her account and I thought u would understand that if i referred to it as my cable it is the cable in question). ALL that you see in those pictures, is her equipment what im using for her setup, to help her out... Yes it is the cable in question. Im not sure how many times this question is going to continue to be asked, but so far its been over 10 times and Ive provided pictures with my own phone of her stuff which ive been setting up.

I think the source of the problem might have been located.

One pin is indeed somewhat lowered, but not bent, its probably cause of a bad picture. regardless, the cable works with another pc, im sure its not the cable which has a issue... or that i have the wrong cable.

Yes, the gpu socket is a dvi-i, the monitor has a dvi-d and the cable is a dvi-d too. a dvi-d does fit and work in a dvi-i, just not the other way around i know. so this is supposed to work

Ah, okay. This definitely did get rather confusing lol

The cable is indeed a DVI-D dual link cable.

Does the BenQ monitor have a source option?

What video card is in her pc?

lotta back n forth going on...

Lets make this extremely simple

Cable works fine on a different monitor
HDMI works fine on the monitor in question
Cable does not work however on the monitor in question

SO
Get another DVI-D cable, which tend to be cheap
and go from there

You'll get 1 of 2 possibilities
Works
Doesnt work

If it works, then the other cable just doesnt like the monitor
if it still doesnt work, then theres something wrong with the DVI port on the monitor

i dont see why this is so difficult to suggest for some people
-

In the end, if it comes down to it just use HDMI
probably wont get 144hz with it, but at least it works.
