Monitor not detecting DVI cable! [SOLVED]
Recently I stepped up from console to PC for gaming. As being on a budget, I decided to buy a proper gaming PC secondhand.

The pc itself is working perfectly and I don't have any issues. However my monitor is what's wrong.
(I should still have warranty from the store, so will be in contact too, but I figured the problem might be elsewhere)

The monitor is a BENQ ZOWIE XL2411, 144hz. It is only one year old.
The monitor is not detecting the DVI-D cable when plugged in. When HDMI is plugged in, the screen works as it should, no issue.

As for testing whether the cable might've been faulty or the GPU socket, I tested it with another monitor which has the same input. It worked perfectly...
The gpu has a DVI-I while the monitor has DVI-D, but as I said, it work fine with another monitor, thus I'm thinking that it is the XL2411 that is faulty. Currently am unable to test the monitor with a completely different PC, but will try that as soon as I can.

The person I bought the pc/monitor from, was selling it for someone else and had little understanding of pc's. However what I did notice, is that the cables that came with the monitor were even untouched by the person himself. therefore I wondered whether it was a fault by the GPU or PC related. I made sure ALL drivers for the pc were up-to-date.

Does anyone have any other suggestions on why the monitor isn't detecting the DVI-D cable?

I've stated about other cables before. the GPU doesn't have a DVI-sub, so only other cable I have tried was the HDMI, which works.
Oh ok, sorry if u had to repeat that, so i guess when you get your dvi port it should work? Depending on whether its cheaply made or quality
Im currently assuming that if the new cable won't work, it is going to have to be the monitor dvi-d port that has been broken or was faulty

This thread is quickly turning into an argument. Sad that this happens to so many threads.

Anyways, OP, hope the new cable works. If not, then hopefully that shop does returns on consignment items. Most shops that do consignment have a as-is policy, so hopefully this one doesn't.

Good luck!

THE UPDATE:

(before bringing any confusion in this thread, the person writing here is not the same person as to whose account this belongs to, mentioned it earlier, but just in case)

As the nearby store(s) had run out of the cables for some reason, I decided to switch my own cable with hers, in the hope that that would be good enough that her monitor would be working.

Just in case, I've tested her cable on my own pc, it worked without any issues. I tested that cable also on another monitor. Yet again, no issues, all was working. Just for the last try, I used her cable on her monitor. unfortunately for that, it did not work, just like before.
I've tested it with her pc and my own, so I could rule out whether the GPU-port might've been faulty, but as written above, the port on her GPU worked fine.

So I simply took my own cable and just now have tested it on her pc. Weirdly enough, it worked!
I'm glad for her that it started working, and I thank you all in this thread for trying to find a cause/solution and helping me/us in fixing the issue.

This leads me to 3 conclusions (and 1 question though).
- The monitor is NOT faulty
- The cable is NOT faulty
- The GPU-(dvi-i) port is NOT faulty

So why is it, if every item is working as it should, the monitor would not want to take the ''original'' cable?

Either way, it works now, so it was simply swapping my cable with hers (so a new cable would've been fine too, but now we got it done without spending money and my own setup works still too)

On second note, what I have found in the last 2 hours, is that it flickers sometimes (as if the monitor stops detecting, and then sees it again). has only happened twice so far. (so till now once every hour).

Its not like an instant flicker, but more like it goes black, and half a minute later it comes back. and once it shows anything again, it says :input (name of port) like it detects it, again as being a new input

just make sure the cable is secure and screwed in, all u can really do, otherwise it goes back to being a port problem.

I didn't re-read the whole thread, but working from memory: The cable, as you showed in a picture earlier, has a bent pin in the pins associated with the dual-link section. So it is faulty, and it's not making contact in her PC, and barely making contact in your PC. Hence, not working in one, occasional flickers in the other, and unaffected in the PC not using dual-link.

My apologies if I'm wildly of the mark because I forgot a crucial bit of info making the whole thing wrong.

you are somewhat off the mark. I didnt notice it earlier, but there is no pin bent at all.
Ive had in the last few days some cables in my hands as well as looking simply online, the pin isn't bent, but one of all those pins (on each cable and each side its the same) 1 pin, always the same pin, is slightly more inside, or simply shorter.

its like a ''dummy'' pin or something like that.

And the cable wasn't faulty, i know that for sure. You'll understand if you read the whole thread.
But i guess it's abit too much at this point to read haha. either way, Main issue got fixed, if anything wrong still comes out I can simply return to the store.
