GPU Usage not hitting 99% in games.
My specs;

CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K @4.4ghz
GPU: Nvidia GTX 1080
16GB of RAM

Tested with MSI Afterburner. Getting around 50-60% GPU usage on Dishonored 2 and The Witcher 3 whilst the CPU usage is around 50%. I'm running a 1080p resolution and I'm not currently able to get a better monitor. Am I being bottlenecked and is there a work around other than getting a larger screen?

I have been feeling like my GPU has been underperforming since I upgraded to a 1080 from a 980 and I think this might be the cause.

Any help is appreciated.

Yes you are running in to a bottleneck at 1080p. A GTX 1080 is really a 1440p (Ultra wide) card, it's way to powerfull for 1080p.

Run a dynamic super resolution of 2560x1440 until you can afford a 1440p+ screen.

i would say: use the default resolution of your monitor. the display works best then. and give doom 4 a try and crank it up. your pc is very good so u have great gfx there. just dont mind the usage and stuff. imo your pc is not defective.
else: give the 3dmark demo a try...you can compare a benchmark score with other computers on the 3dmark (futuremark) website. this software should stress your pc enough.
kind regards.

Well I just ran Witcher 3 in 2560x1440 and the usage did go up to 70 but still not 99%... I dont have Doom 4 and I have ran 3dmark before and my score was lower than what I was seeing other people use so I'm just confused as hell now.

Then you probably just have trash running in the background.

Check the temps of the CPU and GPU aswell with a tool like Open Hardware Monitor.

Same with Dishonored 2, just ran it in that resolution and was hitting 60-70% usage, not 99%.

My idle CPU usage is only 4% and my processes are taking up like 24% of my total memory.

GPU temperatures are in the 50s and CPU in the 60s when gaming

You might have set a cap on your fps. Amd can cap it with drivers outside of vsync, nvidia might have an option for it too. So disable any vsync or refresh rate settings.

If it's not a refresh cap problem, it could be a ram bottleneck. DDR3 isn't exactly the fastest nowadays. No one really ever tests ram speeds since they're more occupied with amount. Try bumping your ram to 1800 or higher and see if it changes anything.

Best case, is it's just a driver problem.

The ram is perfectly fine.
