I'll look at that, thanks.

Check 2nd hand for Logitech Z-5500 (still sells 2nd hand for around ‎US$42.00 to US$300.00)...

* THX-certified 5.1 speakers with 505 Watts of power
* 10-inch subwoofer

That subwoofer is one of the best Logitech made before turning plastic. It's a large beast.

Note: Z-5500 has been replaced with z906 these days. Still the high-end, but z906 has a smaller sub-woofer. Z-5500 was actually better build quality. Z-5500 has excellent and bigger bass, just tweak the frequency settings to your own liking.

I personally hate the rest of the Logitech range with audio. My other suggestions would however be a lot more expensive (349.00 USD+).

What sound card are you using?

onboard (realtek ALC887) ...which is part of the reason I don't need anything fancy.

In the distant past I had Altec Lansing series 100 that fell in that range, and had decend sound (obv. missing the deep lows but in fairly balanced way.)

I bought them as "throwaway" till I find something better, and they served for over a decade....

I recently bought Thonet and wonder Ratel that is out of your range.

You might check out its little brother.

In the time between I looked at plenty of logitech, Soundblaster and similar systems. Many of them really fancy look. Guess made for parents shopping present for kids. Or gamers who need a lot of noise. Or idk, but definitely not for people who want to listen to music.

I have the Altec Lansing ACS160 with an ACS490 but one of the speakers (the main one) is missing so the whole set is useless. I spent the whole weekend looking for it but couldn't find it.

I'm just tired of using my headphones, which are good (Sennheiser 598 closed) but tired of having them on my head.

If you can spend a little more and can get it, look into the Klipsch pro media 2.1. I am audiophile and this is the best price per performance audio equipment I have ever purchased. It will cost somewhere around £100.

There is literally no other computer speaker system that can compete and you would have to do a receiver with bookshelf speakers to get better sound.

I love Logitech gaming accessories but their audio systems are junk. They aren't an audio company so I wouldn't expect them to excel in this category.

Since you know what good audio is (sennheiser), you will probably be disappointed in anything less than the Klipsch.

I ended up getting the Z313. The bass is muddled and very disappointing.

I used to have a Klipsch GMX 5.1 system with the little round control pod but got rid of it a while back.

I may go with Klipsch again...in the mean time I will make do with this crap thing I bought...you get what you pay for I guess. At least I can attach my Sennheiser 598 to it.

I was looking for those before settling on T&V, had no luck in EU, only few remaining specimens in the US. Also eyeing at Logitech Z623 2.1 by reviews and THX sticker but by look and touch had no faith in them whatsoever. (could not arrange to listen.)

At least you have the Sennheiser"s which is far better than most people.
