Either of them will beat the FX 8xxx, so it comes down to personal choice and what features the motherboards offer that you want.

7500.

Bad comparison. i5 7500 price equivalent is Ryzen 1600. 1200 is budget chip against i3 or Pentiums.
Would not invest into FX anymore for other as getting it extremly cheap and building a secondary machine.

What CPU/GPU you got now?

as others have said the 7500 is the strongest bet out of those, though i would wait a week or 2 for the new intel chips, i3 with 4 cores 8 threads seems like a really nice idea for a budget build.

The 7500 is the strongest out of what you listed but at almost 2x the cost of the 1200 what did you think?

I believe i3 gets 4c/4t ^, the i5 gets 6c/ 6t

Ps, If now is a have to upgrade imidiatly the Ryzen 1600 is best bang for the $ but if you can wait for coffee lake wait.

With a basic mid range Rx 480 so it depends on the GPU you have now, if you've only got Rx 580/GTX1060 6GB the 1600 would be fine.

ive read there may be a 4c 8t i3, which does seem an odd one, with i5 only going to 6c and i7 stepping up to 6c 12t, but i3's already have hyperthreading while no i5's do.

either way, it is far better to wait 2 weeks and see than to buy ANY cpu right now.

I know I'm just seeing how much I'd be missing out on by saving some $$$

Coffee Lake i3's will not have hyperthreading because it would put the i3 line too close to i5 territory and Intel do not want to cannibalise one of their CPU lines... again.

the i3's already have hyperthreading ... the i5 is the only one that doesnt, and its going to 6 core.
