I believe i3 gets 4c/4t ^, the i5 gets 6c/ 6t
Ps, If now is a have to upgrade imidiatly the Ryzen 1600 is best bang for the $ but if you can wait for coffee lake wait.

With a basic mid range Rx 480 so it depends on the GPU you have now, if you've only got Rx 580/GTX1060 6GB the 1600 would be fine.
Intel 7500 = ok if ya wanna save a bit o cash or get a 7600 K if you wanna OC a bit
ive read there may be a 4c 8t i3, which does seem an odd one, with i5 only going to 6c and i7 stepping up to 6c 12t, but i3's already have hyperthreading while no i5's do.
either way, it is far better to wait 2 weeks and see than to buy ANY cpu right now.
I know I'm just seeing how much I'd be missing out on by saving some $$$
