Desktop cooling fans running up to MAX RPM and then down to Idle over and over and over....

Everything was working fine and now this happens as soon as I open the steam app. I don't even have to be in a game, as soon as I open steam it starts. The CPU or GPU aren't under load, it is doing it as I type this. If I close steam the fans go back to normal.

What are your system specs?

Check the CPU temperature with a tool like Open Hardware Monitor.

Like I said this all started within the last few days. Only happens when I open steam. If I open a stand alone game the machine runs normal. Did steam update something?

And it is only the 2 cooling fans in the front of my case. The fan on the CPU, GPU and liquid cooling block are all running normal.
