Motherboard says 118c in speccy and other programs??
Please help, I was checking my temps when all of a sudden I see that my mobo is hitting 118c... Is this a misread? The motherboard does not feel hot. Please help.

Its simply a faulty sensor or the apps are reading the wrong sensor.
Double check accuracy by using the software made by the Motherboard maker.

Which exact brand + model of Motherboard is it?

It's an Asus H81M-A

Misread is normal by those, Speedfan has read my CPU at 95 celsius, while it was 36 in BIOS.
BIOS read is usually the most accurate.

I can't seem to find the mobo temp in my BIOS sadly :/

Please try the Motherboard Software from ASUS and see what all it reports

Weird. I had a ASUS mobo from the same era which yours (a Z68) and the temp was right on BIOS welcoming screen.

CPU/MB Temp right under the system clock.

Pretty sure you wont see that if have ASUS LOGO screen enabled, I think you have to disable that so it shows Text summary for CPU/RAM/Drives, etc.

But also, Win8/10 boots so fast, you wont see this stuff anymore anyways.

I installed the stuff, now what?

Well it monitors things like CPU Temps, see what it says

another good monitoring software is "MSI Afterburner" imo. try this maybe!?

board surface thermistors are often inaccurate, don't trust them. I don't know exactly which sensor you are talking about, but things like the Chipset (Or PCH/Platform Controller Hub, IOH/ I/O controller hub) can and will get normally warmish, but it shouldn't be so hot you can't comfortably rest a finger on the surface (the "ouch test"). NIC's/Network Interface controllers, esp 10GBE ones can get VERY hot, esp when the system is in standby/sleep which can keep the NIC powered up, but no fans are running. This is generally not an issue unless your installation environment is too warm, but it's something to be aware of.

In general, if the system isn't powering itself off it's PROBABLY fine. Best you can do is make sure that system firmware and all drivers are fully up to date. Make sure you use up to date monitoring apps, and use other apps to verify that the app itself isn't simply misreading.

depends in which thermistory is being read from. the CPU has a thermistor INSIDE itself which gives the most accurate core temp. Many boards also have a surface tape thermistor underneath it in the middle of the socket which are prone to read inaccurately high, esp if it's touching the underside of the CPU.

Most modern BIOS/UEFI's will have both an "easy" and "expert" or "advanced" mode. "easy" modes will usually place a summary of general info such as current CPU temp and whatnot on the summary screen. You can usually find more info buried elsewhere in expert/advanced mode. check the board manual for more info.

You can typically banish the boot logo and see POST summary by simply hitting the TAB key. You can also disable the boot logo screen in BIOS/UEFI setup as well.

Well, I do agree that BIOS isn't always accurate either. After two pretty accurate Intel boards (MSI, ASUS) on my new Ryzen the BIOS reads a quite high idle temp - 45-47 Celsius while is arround 30 only in Ryzen Master.
I tend do believe the latter since I use a BeQuiet cooler and the PC doesnt feels hot at all.
