*sigh*

What do you mean "it looks different"? Saying "things are different" doesn't give me anything to go on. If you want help, you're to need to provide more info.

What's your full PC Specs?

Don't get frustrated, I mean you must be new to Windows to not know that this will occur.
You can't go back to anything, you're on Win10 1709 (Creators Update - Fall 2017 Edition) now, which is a whole new OS. You need to wipe all your Drivers out, reboot as needed, then go download and install all the latest ones, then setup your GPU Settings once again.

For example with NVIDIA GPUs, upon an install, these settings get wiped out, this means you're set to RGB > Limited. Set this to RGB > Full. Otherwise colors/brightness are dull because Limited is not the full RGB range.

Because there is nothing to restore back to. Do folks not get why that is?
For one thing, even if you could, the OS would just re-update again anyways.

I just explained why and what to do. This is how PC is, get used to it.

I'm sorry but you're really just going to have to deal with it. This is what using a computer is like, updated happen. Adjust your colour settings or desktop as you want, and move on. If you don't want those icons(and let's face it who really likes icons), delete them.

If you want to do what I do, and create a zen desktop with no icons at all, you can do that by hiding your Recycle Bin through Settings and then deleting all of your other icons. Then Hide the taskbar for a beautiful, uncluttered desktop. Finish with a suitably zen image - I have a 16K desktop of a Rock Garden.\

i know how to do certain things. the output dynamic range is set to full, i know how to adjust the color calibration but after updates were installed and when i go to settings, color calibration is not there now i have to type it. and yes i darkened the color to what it was. but for system restore not to be working makes no sense. i would call geeksquad but you guys always said that is a bad idea.

gtx 1080
cpu i7-7700k
16 gigs ram
ssd forgot how big
liquid cooled

i could just reinstall windows if i want is it easy reinstalling the nvidia graphic drivers without optical drive and disc? just go to nividia website and download it right?

You understand "you are on a new OS" ?
Yes, good... that is why there is no System Restore points.
Notice you have Windows.old on C Drive, that is the old OS (1705)
So you need to uninstall all drivers and install the very latest for everything.

Regarding the computer being "light and dim": it's possible that the new blue light reduction filter aka "night mode" has been turned on by default on your system. Run a search on that to learn about your adjustment options. Also check your power settings, as this sometimes gets changed during updates.

i do have something new called "night light settings" the power settings options look kind of different. i did not mean to overeact if i did but i could have avoided these updates and changes by just turning the pc off and nothing would have been installed should i have done this or no? windows sometimes installs updates but this never happened maybe i overreacted sorry if i did. bad_motha is telling me i have to uninstall and then reinstall the latest drivers. this is not really my area of expertise

Is this hard? No, it comes along with owning a PC.

It's as simple as going and getting all the latest Drivers from the chipset makers, like you would always do.

You remove the old via Control Panel > Programs and Features and reboot after each uninstall until they are removed.

Then install all the new ones... Chipset, GPU, Audio, LAN, WiFi...

You can disable driver updates from MS. It sometimes will install a newly certified nvidia driver. I typically will overwrite it again by re-installing with geforce experience.

Well yes, bad_motha's advice could be helpful if in fact the drivers are the cause of your issues. However, I wouldn't start fussing with drivers unless absolutely necessary, and I know that that new "night light" feature had caught a lot of people off guard. When it's active, your screen will look noticeably different, so make sure you check that first before moving on to other troubleshooting steps.

And no, shutting off your computer wouldn't have changed anything. Windows 10 works differently than earlier versions of the OS, with regular updates being pushed out by Microsoft with little user intervention, as opposed to periodic "service packs" which users could opt not to install. You CAN prevent Win 10 from installing updates, but that's not something I would advise the average user to do. A better option would be to have Windows not update drivers along with the regular updates, which it does by default. There is a simple option for this- you can run a quick search to see how to turn this off, if it starts causing you grief (although be aware that this sometimes doesn't work 100%, because there is some variability as to how Microsoft defines "drivers").
