And how do you mean MS only provides downloads for Windows 10? You can just download the Windows 7 .iso from the Microsoft website but it does require your Windows 7 key.
Oh, they do provide Windows 7 .iso? And thanks for the answer. I guess I will try Windows 10 with 8.1. drivers first, and if that doesn't work, then I go back to Windows 7. Still, thank you.
If you don't have your Windows 7 key read it out using SPECCY first before you reinstall the OS.
Thanks, that's good to hear.
Alrighty, thanks for the link.
And yes, take the time to go onto a working Windows PC and create your own Win10 installer media using Microsoft's tool and your own USB Flash Drive (4GB minimum) > https://www.microsoft.com/software-download/windows10 although 8+ GB drive size is recommend so that after you've created your Win10 flash drive for install purposes you can then use the remaining space as storage for any extras you might need, such as Drivers/Software. For Win10 simply download the tool linked, via a working Windows PC's C drive and run it, before running it, connect the usb flash drive you wish to wipe and have it unpack the Win10 installer onto. The tool is easy to use and will allow you do all of that directly from it; simple select USB, select Language, Windows 10, and 64bit.
If you Windows 7 PC has a COA/Product Key, you can use that (if done before 2nd Tues of December) to activate your Win10 on that ASUS/Win7 PC for free. If the system did not have a COA/Product Key, then that license should be embedded via motherboard bios, in which case after installing Windows 10, simply click Start Menu > Settings > Updates & Security > Activation and see that this checks out, as it should auto-activate via digital license when using an OEM Motherboard w/ embedded WinOS COA already included.
As for Drivers, that would be these:
Intel Chipset INF Driver[downloadcenter.intel.com]
^ SetupChipset.exe
Realtek HD Audio Driver[www.realtek.com]
^ Click "High Definition Audio Codecs"
^ Click "Global" next to "64bits Windows10 Driver only"
Windows 10 will have the rest of your Drivers, once installed and connected to internet, it will fetch and install the following via Windows Updates:
> Intel HD Graphics 3000 series (if you use the onboard intel gpu)
> Qualcomm Atheros 1GBE LAN Driver
> ASMedia USB 3.0 Driver
If you are using an AMD or NVIDIA Graphics (GPU) Card, get the Driver from
https://support.amd.com/en-us/download
or
http://www.nvidia.com/Download/Find.aspx
via the Manual Select method by selecting your GPU Family/Series and OS
Thanks for the info and links. Although I must admit this isn't the first time I'm installing Windows 10, heh. In fact, I'm putting Windows 10 installer on the same flash drive, for the fifth time!
But when it comes to drivers, you'll want to use Driver Booster from www.iobit.com
makes it much easier
