I would highly recommend...
Asus ROG STRIX 08G
- Has a huge DirectCU III with triple wing-blade fans. So it's around 30% cooler and 3x quieter than the reference card. Higher quality component. Better overclocking. Aura RGB Lighting. Note they split the overclocking model O8G vs A8G, suggest getting O8G has it means they have excelled in higher quality testing. A8G is the ones which failed and therefore are slightly underclocked to remain stable.
It's extreme good either way!
The matching Gigabyte model would be the...
Gigabyte AORUS
GPU Base and Boost Clock MHz is the same as STRIX, but STRIX has slightly higher Average Clock Mhz. STRIX would run at slightly higher voltage, out of the box. AORUS has a high quality build too, plus a metal fan cover. It has Gigabyte RGB Lighting.

Aorus has tripple fans too and are in my case absolutly silent too. Aorus doenst use Aura. Aura is Asus. Aorus as a Gigabyte Brand uses RGB Fusion.
In the End go with the card you like most by the looks or the cheapest as the difference is marginal. The difference between partner cards are in a single digit fps number.
Thanks for the correction. Removed 'Aura', I knew they where a certain Gigabyte version, but wasn't sure.
I haven't personally used the Gigabyte AORUS myself, but love the Asus STRIX.
You shouldn't go wrong with either pick however, they appear very similar in quality, noise and performance level.
Edit.
Cheers feildow my bad lol
Yes, The 980 is going into the FX 8350 box, and the 760 will be going into my even older pc, an old fx 6300
My GTX 760 is a EVGA SC2, it has worked well from launch til now, though its dated, the only issue is it always ran hotter than I would like, but EVGA has been a good brand for me.
The only experiance I ever had with ASUS was several years back with a slew of craptop laptops that they made, net books or something. Worst thing I ever saw, so I have always been a bit cautious with ASUS, even though I hear they make great gpus. So far still thinking gigabyte, but the MSI is looking nice Ill do some more research on the ASUS Strix, but pretty much they all seem to be doing damn good from what I can gather
great video link thanks man

I've had three 1080 Ti's and they do get hot with the FE cooler, so I'm assuming they'd get hot with other weak coolers like the Asus Turbo as well. Not saying the 3 fan coolers wouldn't be up to the task, they easily would (the FTW3 ICX I had did) but under water I'm assuming that it'd just function at significantly lower temps.
I'd actually have suggested the Gigabyte Xtreme Waterforce, which doesn't come with a fan on the card but it seems to have gone out of stock.
Im gonna avoid that model, read way too many horror stories about that model being short lived, and cheaply made. the air version they have seems better quality from what I read. A friend actually has that same model, sent it back 2x for poor pump and one was doa.
Amazon and newegg reviews also have alot of similar stories on that card, more than the other cards. Thx tho
Didn't know about that. Yeah, the FTW3 ICX has great PCB quality. I had it before selling and it had like 5-10 sensors for temps, and the cooler was pretty heavy as well.
Though, actually, with the $800 prices on some cards that come with a full cover waterblock, you might wanna go custom water as well.
