Fan Noise: Nvidia Geforce GTX 980

Hello everyone, I was recently playing Civilization 5, but it froze on me and I couldn't even get task manager to run.

I powered down my PC to get out of that, and then turned it back on again, and it worked fine.

The next day, when I booted up my computer Windows started to fix the hard disk. I let it run for a couple hours or so, but it didn't do anything so I powered it down again. I did this several times while I tried to figure out what was wrong.

Eventually I used my laptop to download the Windows 10 OS onto a flash drive and left the PC on to see if it would finish fixing the hard drive.

When I woke up the next morning my PC was fine, and so I didn't try to reinstall Windows with the flash drive.

Lately though I've been noticing when my PC boots up there's a very weird noise coming from what I think is at least one the fans on the GTX 980.

It's kind of a whiny, whirring noise.

Could someone please give me some advice about how to deal with this?

Intel Core i5 CPU 760 @ 2.8 GHz (4 CPUs), ~2.8 GHz
14336 MB RAM
Direct X 12
Nvidia Geforce GTX 980 driver version 23.21.13.8813

ive had to buy fans on ebay for replacement gpu fans (assuming thats what it is) and they are the same brand size etc.. you may have to measure the fan blade width aand distance between mounting holes (on the fan/s itself not the heatsink)

unplug other fans temporarily to rule out other causes also download msi afterburner and increase the video card fan speed to see if the noise changes.. but it "shouldnt" cause freezing in civ if one fan is making noise on the gpu

Likely culprit is coil whine from the fans on the graphics card.. During hung boot sequences they often run at 100% and may have gotten damaged from prolonged high Speed operation.. Just my thoughts..
