PS2 controller not working for NBA 2k18

I am trying to set up a second controller which is a PS2 controller with an USB adapter using Xbox 360 controller emulator (https://www.x360ce.com/). This worked perfectly with NBA 2k17.

I placed x360ce_x64.exe in the installation directory: \Steam\steamapps\common\NBA 2K18
I ran it and filled in the mapping automatically (actually the controller is detected twice, for some reason). But when running the game it's completely ignoring the PS2 controller.

I don't know what's wrong, what am I missing? Maybe the Steam controller configuration is creating some kind of conflict?

Well I did. But I figured it's a hardware question. It doesn't necessarily need to be related to the game. Maybe it's a Steam or a Steam controller configuration issue. So I don't see what's wrong about posting it here as well.
