is an i5 4690k ok for streaming?
i was thinking about streaming some games lately and i was just wondering if an i5 4690k is ok to use. im only planning to play like overwatch/csgo/heros of the storm. or does an i7 make a huge differance?

To be honest, while you can stream on a 4 core it isn't ideal, you could get an ok ish quality, but you will need to turn down the settings, likely 720p at 30fps.
So, yes, extra cores / threads really do help.

Why do you even have a GTX 1080 and not running an i7?
That makes zero sense.

My one rig with my old 4690k@4.5 does just fine with a 1080 ti, so a 1080 would be fine just not great for streaming. You will see issues with cf sli setups that's why I ended up upgrading.

Try it and see. If you can, let us know.

I wouldn't recommend it. My i5 3470 @4ghz chokes when trying to record a dx11 game like civ5. And that's only 1 generation behind. Now you're introducing upload too. Just me uploading a file to pronhub lowers my 1600x cinebench score by almost 200 points. That's like losing 1 core's worth.

You'd have to stream at a crappy low res/fps and low bitrate. You'd be better off just using nvidia's encoder.
