Also the silicon lottery plays a role here.
The reason iam looking into it is because on a pc game forum that iam member they said that in the coming days they will have a competition for a 4k Acer predator 27'' GSYNC monitor, and one of the moderators even told me that they consider ME to win it because iam the best there. Nothing is certain at that point but if i win it then i will need the best perfomance i can until i chagne graphics card that why iam asking it. Right now i have DELLP2416D(24'' 2560X1440 60 HZ IPS 8 MS) and this monitor is a 27'' 4k 60 hz 4 ms ips G SYNC.(if i win it). So i want to be prepared in case i am the lucky ones who gets it!
Increasing the core voltrage is perfectly safe, lot's of custom cards run overclocked out of the factory. You can safely add 200mV. (depending on if your card was factory OCed or not, don't go much higher then 1,3v)
Yeah.. the GTX 970 is not a 4k card. You will need a GTX 1080 ti to game at those resolutions.
If your 970 is factory OC'ed it won't OC as far as someone that has a FE or non OC'ed edition card.
Also increasing voltage is not dangerous and can help you achieving higher clocks.
Also what about 4k movies and tv series episodes? Will they run ok with 970? I already tested some and they run well(however they run at 1440p since i have 1440p monitor now).
As for overclocks, it's down to silicon lottery I am afraid. I won with my zotac 980 amp extremes with them both clocking above 1530MHz, and with my wide selection of 1080ti's I had winners and losers (I've had 7 due to faults lol) with the worse failing to hit stock and sitting around 1560, one that would barely boost to 1800MHz to the winner who hit 2150!!!, Sadly, it had faulty memory so had to be RMA'd :( the current pair sit around 2025-2050MHz before heat slows them them down, which should be fixed now they have waterblocks fitted hehe.
So yeah, luck plays a big role in your over clocks, my 980s got me to the top 100 on 3d mark, my 1080's are no where near :*(
And you never want to do Core all that much anyway. 80ish or so should be plenty.
And getting a display driver crash means the OC isnt stable, some games are more sensitive to such things than others.
