Best Processor for up to $500

To keep this short:
- I will have to buy a new motherboard so don't ask about what my motherboard is
- I will also probably have to buy more memory, I know that
- The price for the CPU itself can be upto 500 dollars
- I don't care if it's AMD or Intel

Anyways, having trouble finding what's the best I can get for $500 processor-wise. Sources are kind of random and there's not much sufficient information. I will use the processor mostly for cpu-intensive games. Thanks.

Edit: I think I'll just hold out a bit on this and upgrade my memory instead. Any good DDR3 deals that aren't ECC or 1333Hz?

How is that relevant?
Sure 720p can be nice if you want to find out what FPS the processor is capable of but since in many of these tests a whole bunch of processors performed the same chances are they were bottle-necked by the GPU.

Sure you could claim that's relevant because there are no more powerful GPUs out right now but then again in that case you could also argue that the whole test was irrelevant because people with those GPUs wouldn't run in 720p anyway.

Those benchmarks doesn't show CPU performance but rather GPU performance but if you want to test GPU performance it would be better to do that at higher resolutions and higher settings instead.

So it's a terrible test. But I guess Techpowerup had listened to the complains about the previous tests of Ryzen vs Intel being bad and now tried their best and failed.

Diminishing returns as i3 8350k or i5 8400 has 85% to 90% of preformance of i7 8700k at half the cost better off waiting for ice lake and using selected games is not accurate benchmark.

If your playing games with 60fps in mind don't mind to spend $1500 if you have Ivylake or Haswell to start with for cpu.

if yo go ryzen route you can get a cheaper cpu now and you will be able to reuse your motherboard as long as am4 is supported. amd promised a long lifespan on the socket. intel motherboard is new socket every whatever few years
