Why only 1024mb?

GTA V only detects 1024mb for my dedicated video memory, why?

well all that text and it does not say what GPU you have. so if you got the prebuild I found by searching that model number, then you have an

ATI Radeon HD 5850 - 1GB <- thats how much dedicated ram it has! there is nothing wrong

That PC is nearly 10 years old. It's not suithed for gaming at all.

HD 5850 had only 1GB memory. Well, its quite dated anyways.

if you launch a game that uses more than 1 GB it will use up to 3.840 MB of your system memory as a failsafe. (and total is just the sum of these 2) but your system memory is much much muuuuch slower than the dedicated vram on your card. if you go above 1 GB it will have a huge impact on performance.

The GPU will not use normal system RAM directly. It just starts swapping data between the Vram, RAM and disk. Some stuff is stored in system RAM but those are the game files and not stuff the GPU is currently working with.

Running out of Vram = Heavy lag.

Your local says Canada so you're kinda stuck with a $200-$250 GTX1050ti.

Make sure you wipe GPU Drivers during GPU change, using the DDU app.
Make sure you are using DVI-D, HDMI, or DisplayPort; NOT VGA
