Loud High Pitched Sound During Gameplay
Hi there. Mi PC started making a really annoying beeping sound, like a whistle, during games. Doesn't sound like the fans and the temps are not even high to begin with. I don't know what may be causing it. Can anyone give some pointers on what may be causing the sound? Really, the sound is annoying as hell, it makes my head hurt :LIS_poker_face:

• CPU: Intel i7 -6700 LGA1151 4 Cores
• GPU: Asus GTX 750Ti (1060 on the way :D )
• Ram: 2x 8G Corsair DDR4
• Monitor: Asus VX238h-W 23
• OS: Windows 10 Pro

Only during games?

Could be an overheating beep warning from Motherboard, or some sort of Coil Whine from either Motherboard, GPU or PSU.

Had no idea coil whine was a thing. Googled it, but it's not the sound i'm getting. It's not actually a beep (hard to describe). It is a high pitched constant noise.

So it stops when you exit a Game?

If so then download something like PRIME95 or AIDA64 and run a full load CPU test.
See if the noise returns, as this could mean the CPU is getting too hot, the Motherboard BIOS is warning u as a result. This will be a good test to do because it will be CPU only based, so if it does return, you know it is not the GPU in any way.

Yes, it stops when i exit a game. Which one do you use? Is there a significant difference between the two?

Ok, my research suggests that aida64 is safer so i went with that. The sound was not present during the cpu stress test, however it came back for a few seconds when i stopped the test. Also it was less loud.

Then its either Coil Whine, or Fan noise.

How long did you run the CPU stress test?
I would give it a good 20-30 mins looped.
During that time, run something like HWMonitor so you can see it, and monitor your hardware temp (*C)

Only ran it for 5 minutes. I'll run it for half an hour later checking the temps as well.
Also, doing some research i found out that my power supply is not enough for my CPU. I have a 500W supply when i should have 600-750W so i have to change that, maybe invest in some cooling as well. Time to upgrade i guess.
sounds like coil whine. I get that on some games too
warthunder loading screen but not while playing
some unity games
i think its ultimately linked to the type of power supply

Yeah, it seems to be that. I will invest in a decent power supply.

Is your PSU a chinabrand or good brand like EVGA, Corsair, etc...?

It's Thermaltake.

Could be video card whining

Is it normal? I would describe the sound like a howling wolf (less loud of course). Sound only appears when it would make sense for the card to work more. Otherwise it is always kinda there but a lot lower so i don't hear it unless i stick my ear to the case.

I would swap parts before making any decisions.

A quality 500 or so above wattage PSU, like Gold Certified is way more then enough for all your specs, even with a GTX 1060 6GB
