Is there a FPS difference when playing at a higher resolution?
To elaborate more, I'm looking at getting some new monitors for my setup, and I'm wondering if I should get a couple that have a 2K resolution or not. I currently have two 1920x1080 monitors, one of them in which I play games on, and the other one usually has discord, steam, or a web browser opened. My main question is, if I get two new monitors that have a higher resolution than my current ones, will I notice a FPS difference?

My Specs:
GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 970 4GB
CPU: Intel Core i5 6500 (Supports Resolutions up to 4096x2304)
RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws V Series 16GB DDR4 2400
Motherboard: MSI H110m Pro Gaming

Res support has nothing to with "is that going to be playable in Games"

And CPU res has nothing to do with anything since that only pertains to the Onboard GPU.

Sure you can run 2K, 4K, 5K, 8K even on a GTX 970, but when it comes to gaming, this GPU will struggle above 1080p. Yes it can run some games well at 2K (1440p) but not all.

I see now, thank you for the insight. To follow up, would you by any chance know some good thin frame or frameless monitors for under like $200 preferably in 1080p or 1440p? I've had these for a few years now and seeing how newer ones are getting all these new features, I think it's time to upgrade.

Nicer picture, shorter response time, thin frame, and having the option of playing across two monitors would be nice. I have two different ones and it's weird moving stuff from each other.

What are your current Display(s) you've been using?
Couldn't figure out the exact models, but one is from Westinghouse and it was actually mean't to be used as a T.V but I use it as my main monitor to play games, it supports HDMI and I've had it for about 5 years or so now. And my secondary monitor is from AOC, it supports only DVI-D and VGA and I've had it for about 3 years now. I also have them mounted on my monitor stand so it would also be nice if the monitor of interest supports VESA.

They all say their model on the back.

Best bet for Gaming and Mutli-Displays is using all DisplayPort

Freesync displays work just fine with nvidia gpus. You just can't take advantage of Freesync.

Freesync displays work just fine with nvidia gpus. You just can't take advantage of Freesync.
I understand that, but if the main feature of the monitor is to support Freesync, then I'd rather get a monitor that supports GSYNC for my GPU so I can take advantage of that as well you know?

Max resolution with my GTX970 with max settings in game...2560x1440 is usually enough. And yes, so long as you can do about 80+ FPS...you should be ok...60Hz with VSYNC will work quite well. It can perfectly perform at those resolutions depending on monitor and of course the game you're running. I can get Half-Life 2 in 4K resolution...and at 120FPS.

You wouldn't be buying it for FreeSync, you'd be buying it based on all the other features.
You can still use 144Hz via DisplayPort, and get a proper sync using NVIDIA Fast or Adaptive Sync.

Pretty much any screen below that is just going to another poor 60Hz Display.

Interesting, thanks for the info. Could you estimate your average framerate for DOOM and what CPU and Ram you're running?
