Thinking of buying the Razer Basilisk question(ish)
So I have been thinking of maybe getting the new Razer Basilisk. But what is holding me back a little bit is like I never used that type of design before and how would it be for general use like scrolling though pages and other uses besides what its made for - FPS.

It'll behave like a razor mouse, so really good initially before falling apart in 6 months from shoddy build quality (in my experience).

Not exactly sure what specifically you're apprehensive about, so this may be unnecessarily thorough but here we go:

The extra buttons usually map automatically to relevant OS functions (buttons 4&5 as back/forward in browsers for instance), not to mention what you could do for productivity with extensive leverage of macros. I have several of my most common Photoshop actions linked to macro combinations with the extra buttons, so in my case a 'gaming' mouse has been a boon to work as well.

Shape-wise, generally these are designed for long term comfort, so it should be fine for general use, even an improvement over your last mouse. However, it can be tough to ensure the overall 'feel' is right since everyone is different, so if there's any possibility of getting your hands on one in person just to try it out, that would be ideal. I know that's increasingly uncommon these days though.

One example of 'mouse feel' differences, from personal experience: Razer tends to lean towards lighter mice, which I personally love. But I have friends that are accustomed to very heavy mice and they vehemently hate Razer.

I haven't yet used a Basilisk but so far I haven't bought anything from Razer that didn't feel great to my own tastes (for reference my history with Razer is Diamondback, Copperhead, Deathadder).

As a brief aside, if your sights are on the Basilisk because of all the "woo, we have super high DPI" marketing, don't pay attention to that crap. Nobody needs to move their mouse 400 inches per second or whatever the conversion from 16k rounds out to. It's way more important that the mouse is comfortable for your own hand, which may mean a different Razer shape or a different brand altogether.

You're lucky. My last Razer mouse didn't even last that long.

Hehe, yeah, by all accounts. Their kit is pretty good, if only they're spend a little more on QA and a Iittle less on marketing, they wouldn't be the beats by Dre of pc peripherals (to anyone who doesn't know beats suck for their price).

I personally haven't had any longevity issues with Razer yet, but so far here that's 3 vs 1, so you may want to take that into consideration as well.

Steelseries and Logitech also make quality performance mice, so they would be worth a look also.

From my experience, Logitech are almost unbeatable for build quality but their range is somewhat limited and their best mice are very expensive. I bought a G900 two months ago and it's the best gaming mouse I've ever had. But it's also $119 and not everybody could justify that much for a mouse.

Yeah Logitech are kind of famous for good mice, I've never liked their designs to much so never had one, currently using an Asus spatha and it's awesome, the downside, however, is even worse than wolfies g900, it costs £140 lol
