Like I said what if yyou cant afford Ryzen or Intel?
But if he/she able to afford, or save up for it, then why delay one self, if he/she can hold onto that cash a little longer to get the next gen flagship. But it ultimately comes down to what OP wants to do.
Also the fact he said he has an I7 which really make me question why he even wants to downgrade, unless he using the 1st gen i7 860, 870, or 880, which isn't much of an upgrade at all really.
That's just one example; that's not a reason to buy something.
DOOM actually became well optimized over time; most games, single threaded performance is all that counts.
Look at the data that shows FX-8370, 6th Gen i3, Ryzen 1200/1300X are all roughly same exact performance in Gaming.
But also look at things from another perspective, if you buy an FX-8, well you're buying something that already the max for that Socket/Chipset; there won't be anything to upgrade to. If you base the system around AMD AM4 or Intel LGA-1151; you'll have a beefier CPU you can upgrade to down the road if needed.
This alone makes going AMD FM2+ or AM3+ a huge mistake. Regardless of how cheap those might be.
And they eat 2-4x as much power as modern CPUs that are better performance. You'd save in the long run by buying a more expensive CPU that wont impact your power bills as much.
I'm surprised and slightly disappointed that it took 29 replies for somebody to notice that.
I think we both know games have been using more then 4 cores for years and now most will especially source2, UT 4 or ID 6 engine based
And this is not even about amd intel, this is about what games are multithreading, like stated motha I dont know what your problem is or that attitude is from I noticed you deleted me yesterday even before this, but dont get smart, your stopping to vadys level
This is about devs taking advantage of more cores and all major devs are now doing it before it was too complicated they claim all new AAA titles use more then 4 cores dont deny it and quite a few have been for years
