I had a few msi mobos dies too soon on me, I tend to avoid msi as nothing I ever bought from them lasted longer than a year after warenty expired. But I do like the msi software lol. Never tried ASUS, still looking, as I got a month or so to decide. Ill update this thread with what I eventually go for.
However bear in mind the Windforce 3.0 cooler on gigabyte OC is barely enough to cool the GTX 1080 Ti. I would spend a couple dollars more for Aorus non Ex for a better cooler. On EVGA side I would get SC2 instead of the other SC versions.
I have the windcool on the gtx 980 and it works fine, but I do have a ton of airflow and a water cooled cpu, so air flow isnt an issue. The Gigabyte Aorus does seem best so far
I have G1 i.e Windforce 3.0 GTX 1080, it's fine. However GTX 1080 Ti is 70w TDP higher than GTX 1080 and the cooler is still the same so it's barely keep up. Aorus cooler handle up to 400w TDP.
hmm the Aorus is actually cheaper than the Gaming OC as well.

can you confirm the Aorus from this link is better than the Gaming OC at

Thanks again, Reason I am shopping a month early is to have plenty of time to make an educated purchase, as I am done dropping a grand on gpus for a few years lol
A brand u could also check is galax aka kfa²

But as above in post #1, it's up to you.
no ty, never heard of them, not investing in a company I never heard of and never used before.
Nvidia, EVGA, Gigabyte and possibly MSI are the only ones I am open to considering, but thanks.
Galax/KFA2 is pretty good if you buy the HoF limited edition but it's pricey as heck and more for LN2 OC boasting. It's like MSI lightning Z or EVGA Kingpin.
That is fine, just never heard of them, if it was a hundred dollar purchase fine, not chancing a company I know nothing about with a thousand dollar sale. I'd rather settle for a few mhz slower and a few dollars more and stick to a known company. I will keep an eye on them for future potential purchases.
- MSI is the highest clocked at 1325 MHz / Gigabyte 1178 Mhz / Asus ... Boost Clock: 1178 MHz Boost Clock: 1279 MHz Boost Clock: ~1501 MHz
That is nice. A GTX 970 would be a backward step for me. I have a 43inch 4k TV, as well as 3 monitors 1920x1080 when used as one its 5760x1080 and it can use 6 1/2 gbs of ram on max settings in some games. The 970 would choke on my rig. I am buying a GTX 1080ti. That part is a solid 100% guarentee.
It is just a matter of picking what model and make will best suit my needs.
So far Gigabyte>>>MSI>>>EVGA are my current picks. Will let you all know what I decide and will update with performance differences later. Chances are Ill buy it on Black Friday or Cyber Monday, as that will be the best likely time for a sale.
