Get a 1000 series GPU instead. 1070 or 1080 maybe. Those cards will be a waste of your money if you are only playing at 1080p.
I agree with you
Both are powerfull, but eh.. for the price go with gtx 1060 or 1070.
Also don't buy any used gpu.
And scratch the SLI joke.. it's not worth the money for gaming. Buy instead 1 powerfull gpu if u need the power.
But also depends on your current setup.
Buy a graphics card from the new gen not the maxwell you will be have more fun with it.

The 980 ti is a little bit faster than 980 it isnt the money worth.

It's basically a GTX 1070. If he can afford it and the 1070 is out of his range, I'd say go for it.
Yes its a great card except you dont have warranty on a second hand card 😕

Ist a big problem

buying a gtx 1080 is a better idea depending on your budget but if your only playing at 1080p then yes its a waste of money
Wow i think he cant afford that.

If he can afford a 980 ti he can also afford a 1070/1080.
You can buy an Gtx 980 only second hand , so its cheaper.

Thats why he wants to buy it.

I recommend the 10 series remember a 980ti is equivalent to the 1070 and the 980 is equivalent to the 1060, get a newer card but if you find a good deal on an older card go with your gut, make sure it's in good conditions, etc. I got my 1070 used but it was owned by a responsible owner
The 980 and 980ti will come with a 2 year warranty.

£80 difference between 1070 and 980 to.

Different between them two is £100 for me. Upgrading from GTX 680 4gb. May SLI in the future.

Which one? Halp.

GTX 1070 or GTX 1080Ti are better options. Go for those GPU's.

Worth the 80 pounds for sure. Quite a difference between 980 Ti / 1070 and a 980.
980 Ti on the other hand is still a great card, but for the same price a 1070 will run just as fast, with less power consumption, which usually equals a cooler and more silent card.
GTX 780Ti < GTX 980 < GTX 1060

GTX 1060 = Slightly faster than the GTX 980 and 3x performance in VR (Virtual Reality).
GTX 1070 = GTX 980 Ti / Titan X performance levels
GTX 1080 = 2x GTX 980 SLI performance levels

If you can get a cheap GTX 980 for 2nd hand, then go for it. They are still beasts of a gaming card. Ti would be roughly 30% performance increase over that. Else consider the GTX 10xx series (GTX 1070 would replace the GTX 980 Ti, for example, giving better performance for less power draw, later technology and support) or if you are considering VR.

All would be optimal at 1440p resolutions with very high to ultra settings.

Bottom line:
GTX 980 Ti ($100 difference to GTX 980) but GTX 1070 ($80 difference but equal or greater performance)...

Therefore GTX 1070 is the best pick.
