Gtx 1060 6gb paired with i5 2400

Hi,

I currently have an EVGA SC GTX 1060 6GB paired with an i5 2400 and 16 GB of RAM.

I'll soon be getting a new case.

I was considering upgrading my CPU, motherboard and RAM as well.

Will I see much of a performance increase in gaming if I upgrade to an i7 7700k or a Ryzen 1700?

I game at 1080p 60hz

You will see quite a big difference between the i5 2400 and a 7700k. But how much of a difference it makes differs per game.

I do play quite a lot of the AAA titles. GTA V, Witcher 3 currently

May just keep my current set up for now and set aside some cash instead.

Think I may just upgrade the whole lot once the new generation of games consoles are out in a few years time

If that what you want to do, I highly recommend waiting until the 8th gen of Intel CPU comes out, such as the 8700k this way you get 6 cores, and the next gen motherboards.

Since you have 16GB ram in your current rig I'd suggest selling off the i5 2400 and buying a used i7 2600/2700/Xeon 4 core 8 thread .

Depending if your motherboard can over clock an i7 2600 a Ryzen 1700 would be a bit of a side grade.

I would also say wait for 2018 Zen 2 and intels i5 8xxx line up that's supposed to have 6c/6t.

Ps, I'm limping through 2017 with an FX8350 until 2018 then I'll decide between the newer intel coffeelake and AMD Zen 2.

In 2018 there will be Cannonlake, intel's new 10nm architecture cpu.

Sure ^ if an i7 3770 is supported that's another option.

Sure ok I could have the endless sea of intel lakes mixed up , what ever lake shows up in to 2018 that's an i5 6c/6t
